Look how surprised the doctor is! Boimler is going to save the day! And the captain has just ordered everyone to protect him as they make a desperate dash to Sick Bay! Classic chase scene! They wouldn't look out of place if they were wearing cowboy hats! What a classic throwback to how TOS was basically Wagon Train in space! This show respects its source material and extends it skillfully! Clearly, it qualifies as Classic Trek! And no one can legitimately claim otherwise!

I don't get why some of them had adult size outfits and why some of them had their outfits during. Why Picard's heart wasn't rejuvenated and why their brains weren't swiss cheesed. The premise is dumb and only bait for ephebephiles. The "you're young again and weigh your regrets vs opportunity" moral lessons were better imparted in Tapestry. Rascals only exists to troll the pizza dipshit.

The captain has just finished taking credit for the crew's rescue, cutting Boimler out completely. Now he sees the way the bridge crew treats the lower decks. In TOS, it became a cliché that red-shirts died constantly. The same pattern exists here; again, not a parody, but an homage to classic Trek. So what have we learned today? That consensus can be falsified by people who don't have your best interests at heart. So give Lower Decks a chance! What we have here is the classic Kübler-Ross model, dealing with grief or loss. Stage 1, denial, didn't take very long. That was followed by a prolonged stage 2, anger, where the oldtrek geezers seethed so much I though their aged hearts would give out. And maybe some did; there seems to be a lot less of them around these days. And as of the previous thread, they've clearly moved into stage 3, bargaining, what with their rules and their pleading and their sudden fake-as-hell airs of politeness. I like Barclay, but it's insane that he was still allowed to be an officer on the Enterprise after being caught using the Holodeck to:

I like the concept of the Dominion being a dark mirror of the federation but they just turned them into a generic bad guy faction that never actually challenged the ideals of the federation. We'll never get it, but the next Trek after VOY and DS9 should've dealt with the Federation fraying because of the wars and running up against a coalition of planets that are subsuming their individual cultures and freedoms in the pursuit of security. A real anti-federation, where more primitive species are forcibly brought up to space age tech because they think it's immoral to leave a bronze age world defenceless against galactic threats like the Borg or to be wiped out by global phenomenon that their tech could stop (and of course to bring in more bodies to man the Coalition military).

It'd be fun to see the Federation tested against an ideological enemy that actually makes some good points. That was the best parts of DS9 and TNG episodes. I'd give anything to have smart talking political Trek again, instead of zoom zoom boom boom quirk chungus nutrek.

So rewatching VOY and finished first half of the pilot. It really isn't explained why Voyager was fucked when transported to the Caretaker when every other vessel appeared fine. Aside from that it makes Janeway seems rather knowledgeable on technology compared to other Captains and establishes her really having a scientific background. Can't wait for her to go full Insaneway, Everyone else outside of Tuvok seem a bit like an ass so far like the actors really don't want to be on set, then again the whole pilot is one long reshoot so guess makes sense.

I greatly enjoy the fact that in Trek every culture is an island unto itself. Trek is, after all, a better universe than our own in many ways. You can appreciate and respect another culture and way of life without having to go full klingweeb into it. You can also judge it for its failings, which is something Trek does as well. It is sane and rational to make assumptions on how a Klingon or Ferengi will behave, even if there are rare exceptions among the species.

In practical terms, it's simply too redundant to try and depict every race having fanboys of every other race. What would be the point? Do we really need to see a Benzite who collects Bolian pogs? An Antedian who's really into Nausicaan limericks? Such a line of throwaway dialogue might exist, but there's no need to turn it into a full on characterization. It's enough that cross-culture fascination tends to come in the form of archeological mysteries.

Before shooting Voyager episode #2, director Kim Friedman sent every Voyager actor a VHS video tape of clips from DS9 episodes showing the DS9 cast shaking, with instructions to start copying the DS9 style of shaking during turbulence/battle/whatever.
