This guy has a good video on the workflow, it's not as complicated as you probably think unless your models are many thousands of faces, at which point you should stop using blockbench.

Sorry for the negativity but that guy was one of the worst posters agdg ever had. He was working full time on that game for years and spending thousands on store asset and it was never going anywhere. At first he wanted it to be vampire survivors in space, then he pivoted to slay the spire in space. Just ridiculous levels of FOTM slop worship. That was a long time ago though, so maybe he grew out of it and he's cool now.

You're not gifted at learning anything because you've kneecapped yourself by refusing to learn from prior works. Great artists steal. If the allowance you get from mommy isn't enough to pay for assets, at least learn to go look at ripped assets from old games and copy how they're made.

heh, yeah, about that. so that other thread anon warned me, don't use GUIDE, GUIDE is a piece of shit. So when debugging the debugger always ends up in GUIDE functions because it does input buffering and processing every frame so it is always active. So I try just disabling the plugin to stop its autoload from running and see if there is any difference.

A heap of things break, and refactoring them all will be a rabbit hole, re-enable it, now it is throwing exceptions inside GUIDE plugin code. I remove and re-add all GUIDE related @export items, still throwing exceptions because something is NULL meanwhile I can't see where it would be set as it gets set on some other frame. I delete .godot folder, still exception, it seems the addon has some properties it stores in programData somewhere that get corrupted references if you disable the plugin and then it will keep crashing from then on. I'd have to make a new project so it gets a new project guid and then copy everything across..... okay, well I was planning on starting again from scratch anyway as I can take everything so far as a draft and do it again a bit cleaner.

Use a Class and go if node is class instead of if node.has_method() etc, stuff like that. And this time, I am going to run the demo car project inside my project as a separate scene, and that way I can check performance regressions. because its not just FPS, I'm getting 196FPS with 84ms _process time, it decouples the process logic from the rendering logic, but the rendering is just spending 10 frames re-rendering the same objects in the same locations until the next 84ms (about 12FPS) _process loop runs and updates the inputs and the object locations and they jump, so it is high frame rate but choppy as shit at the same time, just broken.

One of these plugins or autoloads is lagging badly, but its hard to find out which one when the scene fails to run at all if you remove any one of them because those objects are code dependencies

I mostly look at doom 3 and valve game assets for modelling, and am taking some programming courses at uni.
That seems like even more of a waste of money then, since there's so many free works to look at to learn from.

yeah I can't figure it out, it says that all script functions took 1.5ms in total, my system cpu utilization is 3%, my graphics card has AI frame gen disabled and was like 120FPS, it offers no drill-down inside of "Process Time", time to start again. I'll just copy things over and rebuild them one by one and test in between and probably discover what it was

I automated setting up the folder with junctions based on a shell script. it does mklink /j on windows and ln -s on linux, for linking all the common directories into the project folder. It's not really necessary to do stuff like this, but I like reducing the friction to setup and deploy a new experimentation project without having to do all the BS every time.

The reason why I dislike osur and horbror and their ilk is their insincere personalities. They always ignore me and I'm sure they laugh behind my back. Why is this important? The possible explanations are very few.
1. They do not care about my game despite it's relevance to /agdg/ - this means that they are detached from the community and speaks very badly about their actual relation to this place and their hidden agendas
2. They are completely aware of my game but do not recognize any potential in it - the only explanation for this can be petty egoism and that they do this to a lot of games to shield their fragile egos from the possibility that there are devs here that are better than them or could become better than them
3. They are aware of my game and its potential but choose to ignore it - this is the worst one of all - it means that they do it because they are afraid of what's going to happen if I get the spotlight. God forbid they lose it, and they know their positions are fragile since they have very little securing them on their ivory thrones. how difficult is it to implement physics interactions? right now I'm thinking about whether I should aim for physics "simulation" or just fake physics interactions by for example making it so that different hitboxes on your swing have a different "force" multiplier that basically just changes how the enemy staggers based on which part of the blade you hit with during a certain animation. there are no actual physics in that interaction, but the end result intuitively feels like it's physics driven.
that's just an example, but basically my idea for my game was to make it so you can make enemies stumble and things like that, but while the force gets applied to them, they'd try to keep themselves upright by utilizing procedural animation of some sort.

Trigger should be further back it only needs enough space to move back a bit and the hammer's rotational point is somewhere around pic rel. The gun's frame is oddly thin or the hammer is too wide. Hammer should be like 50% of the width of the frame. You're missing a rear sight and if the top strap is going to be that wide the front sight can't be the same width.

Of course a lot of this only matters for like a first person game.

Getting soulslike 3d animation-based movement and attacks and blending to work in Godot is a nightmare. There's a youtuber called fairfight that has several hours worth of videos explaining the whole process of him basically writing his own animation framework in godot because the default animation options are ass.

I have taken a vow to minimize my use of plugins and autoloads, they are a double edged sword. With keeping that in mind, I am changing the loading screen to use this technique, I think it will be cleaner as it optionally supports autoloaded loading screens if any are present, else just displays some text and it doesn't require any presence itself except a class_name namespace, no singleton or autoload or anything


I think I might do the same thing for achievements, like instead of using steam integration directly throughout the code, just bounce it through a custom wrapper class_name that also implements simple fallbacks so you can easily remove the plugin from your project without having to do major surgery

I added a jumping magic circle to the game, it makes the jump stronger allowing allowing you to escape the gravity field and reach far away platforms. In later stages this will be how you can jump between planetoids.

This one is another progress I did, I optimized the gravity's code, making all calculations in the main thread made the game slow with just 80 enemies on screen and with 200 it was some horrible 5 - 10 fps, but know it can handle 450 enemies 60 fps because I learned to use the the Unity's job system Just in a basic level

I don't need to many enemies on screen, but if the game can handle 450, then it will be smooth with the limit of 200 I wanna implement.

Plenty of metroidvanias focus on shooting, like in original Metroid and have no melee attacks. Hollow Knight is exactly that. Bloodstained is exactly that. Iconoclasts is exactly that. Metroid and SoTN is exactly that. You're lucky if your metroidvania has more than one melee type of attack. My gut is telling me my game isn't going to be any fun. What's the most time you have invested in a game before you scrapped it? I don't like how it looks or how it plays. I feel like people's standards for what they expect from an indie game now exceeds my current capabilities. If I quit now, I would lose about a month of my time. Idk what engine you're using but if our invisible object Y looks at X, than:
-decreasing X relative position in xaxis and than increasing it
-increasing rotational speed and than decreasing it
That's the dumb way I would do it. It follows real world behavior (closer to object - spin faster)

I had a friend doing a space simulation for uni.
Physics for this is bullshit.
Ask yourself if doing it "real way" is needed for your game. I don't know what it looks like or how big is it. But does your game need real simulation of forces being applied to planets and moons and asteroids and suns and galaxies. Even if you manage to make one object orbit other, than we have moons, other planets affecting each other and shit.
I don't want to be that guy but I can't see GMI in this. The simulation of space from my friend was supposed to be for master's and take +1.5 years. And you want a game on top of that.
It's time to rethink what we're doing anon.
