The SOUL is not and never has been (You), the body has always just been a vessel for the SOUL. Otherwise, how could the Fallen Child have lived on after death by transferring their SOUL into Asriel? How could the SOULs of the dead kids help you against Omega Flowey?
You and Frisk were different people. Frisk is not their body, Frisk is their SOUL. Ergo, you and the SOUL you control are different people. Why would that have changed for Deltarune? In Undertale, if we ignore any Third Entity stuff, then at the very least there were two people in Frisk's body.
