Yeah I think sometimes they try too hard. The thing about writing "serious/complex" stories for kids is that you need to strike a balance between serious and fun or else you'll alienate your audience. It sucks because we had some games that struck the balance well like SA2 or the Storybook games. But stuff like Frontiers is way too bland, and 06 is too lame and cringe and lacks the energy of previous games. People have this idea that children's media needs to have drama and dark moments to be respectable but the truth is a balance is the best approach for this age demographic. This kind of thing is what caused a lot of CN shows to lose viewership in the 2010s, they became too focused on the lore aspect and forgot the cartoon aspect. It's no secret a lot of the writers for these shows would go on to make adult stuff because that's what they always wanted to make deep down. Fucking Five Nights and Freddy's understood this balance better lol
