There's also the greater philosophical aspect of "contingency" (being dependent on) in which elements of an object or idea have something that must exist in order for that object or idea to exist. You can take this back to the origin of the universe as well and eventually get to a "necessary existent". See Ibn Sina's "proof of the truthful" for more as he goes further back as some people like to cope about the universe being the necessary existent.
