What exactly do we even define as "freedom" in the concept of Sonic? That's a geniune question. Sonic has went on and on about freedom or whatever, but in the context of the games is usually to stop the oppresion of Eggman (+others), help some people be true to themselves.

Does that concept of freedom applies to Deltarune too? Because Deltarune, imo, is more about freedom of will; is a meta text about the characters being part of a simulation, and the shadow bosses (plus kris, maybe) want to be "free" of their role.

I dunno, I feel its too different themes despite the name.
