Of all the idw characters to get an obsessive toxic fan in the way Sally gets, I never thought it'd be mimic. She(?) responds to every and any post involving Mimic and harasses artists who don't include Mimic in their arts but draw Starline

The IDW writers want to tell "real" stories with their OCs because they aren't allowed to touch the game characters. They don't like Sonic stories, they're just forced to write Sonic stories. This is why Belle sucks, why they killed Starline and Mimic, etc. All their bullshit comes from different reasons: Ian is an archiefag and Evan and Gigi are fandomfags. I think Barnes is the only one who really knows and enjoys the kind of franchise he's working for.

The reason they can't do show, don't tell with Mimic unlike Rouge is because they gave him an occupation incompatible with the series. He's not just supposed to be a spy, he's an "assassin" but they can't actually show him murking people with that shitty knife. He didnt even directly kill whisper's friends which is part of what makes him hard to believe as a character

that's an issue with both instead of just mimic. if they were game characters whisper would be vaguely fast like everyone else and a metroid style fighting kit letting her keep her distance at all times. mimic would then reflect this where he's better at close combat than her and have his own gadgets that let him get close at high speeds. mimic being only able to copy appearances means his only purpose is for drama and conflict between characters which no one likes

Sonic is like Mickey Mouse, you're supposed to be able to just drop him into any scenario and his presence just makes stuff happen and that gets the story going.

Being "like the wind" and "just a guy that loves adventure" are supposed to be the vehicles that explain and perpetuate that idea. He travels around the world in search of adventure, so he can easily end up stumbling upon this brand new story in this brand new setting. It's like Scooby-Doo, the gang typically just drive around the world and then somehow stumble upon a mystery that happened to be going on in this new place.

That's how Sonic works. Heck, the Storybook games do exactly this. It's just Sonic being isekai'd into the Arabian Nights and the Knights of the Round Table, and then these epic adventures just ... happen. It's just a matter of having an interesting scenario, and seeing what happens when Sonic is thrown into the mix.

A character like Tails, let's say Chris or Yuta or even Donut Lord, are the "protagonists" of the story itself, that Sonic is being dropped into. And so that character's development is impacted by Sonic's presence, and his actions change the course of the narrative because in some sense, he's not supposed to be here in the first place.

Sonic the Hedgehog is Mickey Mouse done right. That is what he is, fundamentally. He's an embodiment of chaos as free as the wind, yet he's just a guy that loves adventure. Shadow the Hedgehog as a character directly tells us that SONIC is the Ultimate Lifeform. Eggman's grandfather tried to create the "Ultimate Lifeform" and created a being identical to Sonic in every way. And yet, Sonic Adventure 2 goes out of its way to NOT tell us this. It SHOWS that, it IMPLIES that, but the closest it gets to directly stating this word-for-word is Shadow's dialogue which you only hear very late into the Final Hazard fight if you spend like 10 minutes there or whatever. And most people likely missed it entirely. Most fans of SA2 and Shadow or whatever just flat-out didn't even think about this or connect the dots at all.

That is how you do it. Everything surrounding Sonic being special in any way is subtext and implications, never overtly stated or focused on.
