I hate this shit you like you wouldn't believe
>replacing bushings in car
>decide to repaint the control arms since they're already out and look gross
>wire wheel them and get some of pic related and the corresponding metal primer
>spray a couple light coats of the primer within a couple minutes of each other just like directions say
>directions say to spray top coat immediately after primer (even though primer say it needs 48 hours between applications)
>okay.jpg
>spray like 3 passes of the top coat within a couple minutes - still pretty thin: can almost see primer underneath in certain spots.
>hang dry in garage which is like 90F and 30% humidity
>come back after a couple days: still tacky
>can dent it with my fingernail almost a week later
>paint flakes off if you even look at it wrong now
This stuff made a couple hour job suddenly take almost two weeks. I swear Rustoleum used to not be this awful like 10-15 years ago. What does /diy/ use for enamel paint?

I use the rust-oleum hard-hat enamels to good effect. They are harder to find though.

The reason paints suck these days is EPA VOC regulations.

Pole Barn Budget Build - Phase 3 - Roof, Framing & Exterior
5.2×4.2m unobstructed floorplan. Roof is 5.5×4.3m. it is built off of the north wall of our solar power equipment and PV mount shed.

old thread:
>>2900858

finally got the 240v buried from the house to the solar power system. that has been the big hold up for months. I bought furring strips or the roof yesterday, installed them today. finished the footer for the north wall. I was 10cm short of the footer meeting the post because I forgot aboot off-the-shelf dimensional lumber specs when drafting. rather than try some shite splice with wood, I dug down beside the corner post, drove rebar into the clay, used screws for anchors, and poured a mini-footer good enough for a (mostly) non load bearing wall. (roof load is carried by a beam .75m back from this wall.) I will let the concrete fully cure to 3 days before I start putting in the studs & furring for the steel siding. until then, I can still frame in for windows.

we have the steel panels on hand to complete the roof as soon as the studs are up. the structural calculations say I don't even need the wall/studs up to install the steel roof, but it's only 3 days, and due to extreme winds that can occur, I lean to the side of caution.

I will update as I progress.

upgrade to fully enclosed garage with auto-doors?

Concrete costs $200/yrd, more or less. 6" slab means 6sq yards per cubic, so a 9yrd full load = 54sq yards or 6x9yrs or 18x27' slab for $1800 not counting steel, and maybe some gravel and fabric.

then frame up the outside walls maybe with some of this shit (let in light) and frame ends for garage doors.

Sounds lot cheaper than prices I'm seeing for "new detached two car".

WTF am I missing?

No Cooling but says Power updated from Pole so Mini-Splits should be possible.
Lots of joists and floor just replaced so maybe big rot or termite issue. I'd do my own crawl but what to look for besides wet dirt to see if rot might come back?
Maybe could finish attic to at least semi-livable additional sq feet, and maybe convert attached two car to master bed and bath.

Enclose front porch for quick extra sq ft.

As far as I can tell by looking at eBay and Amazon and aliexpress, I've been completely screwed by the Boomer I bought my KS-RT70 and XL-MK500 from, because he cut the stupid proprietary cable that these units need to connect to each other and I can't find one anywhere. At this point, I'm starting to think that this type of cable doesn't even exist anywhere else but for this one specific JVC head unit produced sometime in the 1980s.
I'm at least glad that the tape deck works, but I don't see a point replacing the failing CD player in my car with a working cassette player and a CD player that I can't even use.

Is it even possible to make this cable myself? Do one of you somehow have one laying around that you could throw up on eBay so I could buy it? Or maybe one of you guys are way better at internet searching than I am and are you able to hunt one down?
Did you know that if you spend enough time on eBay uselessly searching for a specific type of cable that they will start to suspect you're a bot and make you solve captchas? Hahahaha my life sucks...

The closest I have found, is this, this thing appears as if it would allow me to physically plug the head unit into a 13-pin cable that I have already, and plug that keyboard into the CD changer, but there's no possible way the pinout is correct on this, right? https://ebay.us/m/TlR63f

Locking duck quacking gag
Would a locking gag that forces quacking be feasible? I'm thinking a simple duck whistle incorporated into one of those gags with a breathing hole.

Mostly looking for what kind of gag would be best. An o-ring or spider gag seems like a bad idea but something that fills your mouth would probably work! My concern is that breathing holes are likely too small to fix the whistle into. Worst case scenario maybe drilling through a ball gag?

Costume!

Always remember, it doesn't have to be the theme, post your work, post what you want to talk about as long as it has something to do with sewing in general, or the craft in general. We welcome everyone and will try our best to help you out. Yes, sewing is an art, it's a practicing art, you will always suck at it, but remember that everyone starts somewhere, so Google everything!

Or just show off your work.

BTW this thread has been going strong sense last Halloween and we're about to hit Halloween again! Neat!

I work with Minky a lot. If you're using regular glass head sewing pins, try switching to silk pins to avoid distorting the seamline. And pin about every half inch. It may seem excessive but Minky "creeps" when you sew the seams due to the nap.

Ant formicarium buildalong
I want to build an ant enclosure, more formally known as a "formicarium" myself because ant enclosures are overpriced as shit and the materials needed are pretty cheap all things considered.
I'll document it here similarly to a cookalong thread in /ck/, so whoever is interested can come along for the ride.

I'm also a rentoid and only have shit tier tools, which both means if you want to do what I'll do in this thread it'll be easy with minimal equipment, and I'll likely fuck up, meaning you get to at least laugh at me.
We'll build 2 (ideally) ant enclosures; one made of ytong (a porous building material) and the other made of grout.

Picrel is what I got for the project, all pretty cheap materials. Price estimates will be behind the items.
>For the Ytong nest
This is probably the cheapest nest you can build, and surprisingly decent for that price.
- 1 block ytong. This one is 60x5x20 cm big and cost me 1.50€. Density of 0.5 g/cm^3 iirc.
- Acrylic or plastic sheet (25x50x0.2cm for me) 3€, or picture frame (1.5€)
- 8 Magnets that are somewhat flat at the top (4€/6, so 5.33€ for 8)
That's ~10€ for the entire nest or less.
>For the Grout nest
- See-through plastic container (3€)
- Grout (7€/2kg, you need maybe a quarter, also if you order in bulk it's much cheaper, let's say 3€)
- Sand (Free or 1€)
- A cheap small plastic container (1€ for 6, say 0.5€)
- Plastic drinking straw (0.2€)
- Metal mesh (How fine depends on species, at least 30 mesh, 7€ for 4 A4 pieces, we'll use maybe 1/8th of one sheet, say 1€ total)
That's also ~10€, though slightly more initial cost as you likely have to buy more than you need for these things.
>Tools and misc stuff
You'll need a drill, a saw (optional but helps), and a chisel or screwdriver you don't care too much about.
I also got some fake plants for decoration later.

How do I get rid of these faggots?
Some retard in my apartment complex seems to have apparently disintegrated into a pile of rotting flesh and dust that's being eaten by a million of these niggers at once, so they spread around the whole building and spawn in every shelf and any drawer that I open 24/7.
They seem to have set up an outpost in my apartment and live in each and every crevice that my landlord left open, of which there are a few that I really really don't want to touch since a lot of shit in my apartment is broken beyond salvation already and if I attract any attention from management I will most definitely get assblasted with rent increases since they haven't increased my rent in 7 years because I fly under the radar.

But I really can't fucking handle them anymore and decided to something about it, so I
> bought an oversized dehumidifier that I will set to something ridiclously low and run 24/7 once it arrives, since those niggers need moisture for breeding.
> moved most of my daily operations into public spaces so I spend as little time as possible inside of my home (showering at the gym, working in the library etc.) in order to fuck up their food supply as much as possible. I basically only come home to brush my teeth and sleep at this point.

Is there something else that I can do that DOES NOT involve calling a "" professional"" exterminator who will ask for a few hundred wagie tokens after spraying some shit around for 5 minutes or gaslight me into thinking that tolerating these disgusting six-legged niggers is acceptable and widely common because "muh mites and spores" or some other made up bullshit? Do I just /diy/ mustard gas from cleaning supplies instead?
What can I do that's actually effective and not boomer-tier bullshit like spraying random soup ingredients around your walls and placeboeing yourself into thinking that it somehow works?

For clarification, it's not only silverfish but also that other annoying critter that looks the same but is worse for some reason.

I have a sort of third world issue, I have unlimited power, but water as a resource is scarce. I can only get water by loading a tank in a truck and driving it to a place that fills it and then driving back and putting the tank back on its stand, it is incredibly labor intensive.
I was wondering if /diy/ has any ideas on ways to use the power to reliably convert tainted water back into usable water. The main water uses at the moment are washing clothes, washing dishes, and showering.
My goal is to convert at least some of this used water back into clean water for washing clothes again or at minimum for use in less human stuff.
So basically boil it and distill it or evaporate and condense or what else can I do?

My Advanced Realistic Humanoid Robots Project - #5
Last Threads: https://warosu.org/diy/?task=search2&search_username=artbyrobot

To begin: the project goal: I am working to make a series of humanoid robots. I am using a Biblical theme of naming the first 3 robots I make Adam, Eve, and Abel. The goal is for these robots to have human body inspired musculoskeletal systems, advanced AI, and that they look human and pass for human to a casual observer at least at a distance. They must be able to walk, talk, run, dance, do sports, do chores, manufacture products, and make more robots just like themselves if not even better. My aim is to build a single robot arm and head and then add sufficiently advanced AI to that arm and head to enable it to build the rest of its own body for me. This way I am delegating the work of building the majority of my first humanoid robot to that robot rather than doing that work myself - and this is to save me time.

In a like manner, my goal with the AI is to code just enough AI that the AI can begin coding itself and this way I don't have to code most of the AI myself because it will self create itself. I liken this to building a seed and that seed growing into a tree because for me to code that tree would take too long for me and just creating the seed would then save me time.

It's not really 40 hours a week. Me and my dad hired a handyman and he came by for like 2-4 hours a day at most for a week. A handy man has a set task to do: so unless it's something like tiling that one two hour job might be his only gig in...

I bought a very cheap spare welding helmet. It had a nice glass on it, but the helmet's mechanism for tilting was bad out of the factory, you couldn't possibly set it to a normal angle. After drilling extra adjustment holes, I could set it to a normal angle, but it would either constantly ...

How much of a pain in the ass would it be to buy and renovate something like this? And how would you do it? It sits on 4 acres, has a small creek and well, small EU village and it's for sale for 20k.
It's the only feasible way for me to get into the home ownership game.

Buy a good gas analyzer. Don't skimp or buy an amazon / ebay one. That said, you need to understand the nature of the gases you may come across in confined spaces and the risks. You really need closed air-supply for these sorts of ventures. No clothing that might generate a spark, if you'r...

/mcg/ - Microcontroller General: Serious Devboard Edition
Previous thread: >>2909001

Here we discuss microcontrollers (MCUs), single board computers (SBCs), and their accessories, such as Atmel mega and tiny AVRs (Arduinos), PICs, ARM boards such as blue/black pill STM32, ESP8266/32s, RP2040, Raspberry Pi, and others.

For general electronics questions (power supplies, level shifting, motor driving, etc.) please ask /ohm/.

>where can I find verified quality microcontrollers and other electronic sensors or parts
digikey.com
mouser.com
arrow.com
newark.com

>but that's too expensive
aliexpress.com (many parts here are fake, particularly specific parts out of stock in the above sites)
lcsc.com

>I need a part that does X and Y, with Z specifications. How can I find it?
use DigiKey's or Octopart's parametric part search. Then purchase from one of the sellers listed above.

>how do I get started with microcontrollers, where should I start?
There is no defined starting point, grab a book and start reading or buy an arduino off ebay/amazon and start messing around. There are a plethora of examples online to get started.

Manual or Hydro Trans Riding Mower?
The only manual trans mower still made is the Murray MT100. Am I dumb for wanting a manual for the durability, even if it’s less convenient when mowing around trees?

Should I only consider used mowers or just buy the MT100?
