My Advanced Realistic Humanoid Robots Project - #6
Last Threads: https://warosu.org/diy/?task=search2&search_username=artbyrobot

To begin: the project goal: I am working to make a series of humanoid robots. I am using a Biblical theme of naming the first 3 robots I make Adam, Eve, and Abel. The goal is for these robots to have human body inspired musculoskeletal systems, advanced AI, and that they look human and pass for human to a casual observer at least at a distance. They must be able to walk, talk, run, dance, do sports, do chores, manufacture products, and make more robots just like themselves if not even better. My aim is to build a single robot arm and head and then add sufficiently advanced AI to that arm and head to enable it to build the rest of its own body for me. This way I am delegating the work of building the majority of my first humanoid robot to that robot rather than doing that work myself - and this is to save me time.

In a like manner, my goal with the AI is to code just enough AI that the AI can begin coding itself and this way I don't have to code most of the AI myself because it will self create itself. I liken this to building a seed and that seed growing into a tree because for me to code that tree would take too long for me and just creating the seed would then save me time.

Garden swing hinge
Bought the garden swing bench years ago—mostly solid, but the chain-on-shackle hinge is weak. Started squeaking, then the chain grooved the shackle. Now it jumps the groove on big swings, making a loud crack. Some swings use nylon spacers; I want bearings instead to make it last. Original shackle’s hard to replace, so I’d sleeve a bearing to fit inside it. Bearings handle static/dynamic loads; bolt is M10.
Thoughts on this fix?

>Id go for a regular ball bearing instead
Ball bearings that will fit doesnt have enough static load rating. I believe it was something like 100kgs x2 bearings. However 3 adults can and often do sit on this swing so I need atleast 300kgs + some safety factor for static load. Ball bearings ...
This perhaps? The nylon washers would only see minimal load, as the brunt of it goes into the bearing.

Shackle sizes are limited, esp as you need one that fits trough your chain, so the bolt might have to be one not made for the shackle. When i think about it, the od of the bearing really doesnt ha...
You caught me at the right tine, i had a notepad on the coffee table... I like to keep things simple, and something like this would just be bolts and washers. I see that my sketch might make the chains rub on the hanger tho, ill give it some more thought
You will need a bearing winh an inner race though, and it will gett pretty damn small. Id go for a regular ball bearing instead, and see if i could get one that fits inside the upper hanger without a bushing. It will be easier to make an inside bushing to make the lower shackle fit, where your choic...

Rethinking my cooling situation
Hello all,

I am getting myself an Arctic III Liquid Freezer Pro AIO CPU cooler and it is leading me to rethink my fan configuration in my Phantex P600s case.

I intend to place the radiator on the top as exhaust and use the 3 120mm fans that come with it.

Looking at the back fan, do you think I should use it as an intake for closer CPU airflow, or as an exhaust for drawing the front intakes through the components? Figured I'd ask.

(Currently, I own x3 140 fans and x3 120 fans.)

Make radiator intake too. Put filters on front and top.

If you don't have positive pressure the case aucks in dirt from every airgap. Ever little tiny slit in the case will.be covered in dirt in a year
>>2955724 (OP)
the rear fan is for exhaust and for pulling the front air in closer

and you shouldn't have bought an intel
Make the back fan an intake. This way you have more intake than exhaust, creating a positive pressure inside the case which helps keep dust out, assuming the intake fans are filtered/meshed.

Conversely if your case interior has negative pressure, it pulls in in through ANY opening in the case, even...
You are over thinking this. It turns out it's hard to impede air flow inside a case to an extent that it will actually affect CPU and GPU temperature. LTT did a video where they stuff the case with tissue box and a teddy bear before they could see a difference on temps.

For a case, just make sure y...

Twenty years ago, I was a kid and wrote a bunch of mean shit on the walls of my relative. It still existed - and upto this day, and I just learned that you can remove paint/old shit from your walls by applying toothpaste and perfume along with soap onto the affected area, and rubbing it with a great intensity with four fingers. Just thought this would be useful in case anybody encountered my issue. I'm a fucking adult today, and I wouldn't want anybody walking into the room and reacting to it like what'd happened to me. Godspeed.

Covert smoker.
I can't have a smoker in the apartment I'm in, but I badly want a smoker.
I am just enough of a redneck to know as long as your heat isn't that high you can make a smoker out of litterly anything that slows the smoke down from just blowing away.
Now the issue with all my designs is they still roll enough smoke to get the FD called on me.
I need to figure out a way to keep good air flow but reduce smoke coming out of the smoker.
Also it needs to be small. Like Webber kettle grill sized.

I am thinking a wet sponge or even wet wash clothes over a chimney might be the key.

Let me know what you all are thinking.

>>2956082
What I am thinking is it's an air flow issue.
If I just do a sponge or wet rag I am guessing the smoke will find a new exit or clog up the sponge quicker than I expect due to back pressure and smother my embers.

I am thinking about just going for it and doing it with an old stock pot and ...
i use a wet rag over my shop vac exhaust to collect dust
same concept should work
maybe a wetted sponge pushed into the exhaust would last longer
might have to rewet it every hour+

I am building a bathroom in my cuckshed and I want to insulate it. However, there's no room to insulate in between the block wall (goes 3 feet up) and the pipes running to and from the hot water heater. If I insulate on the inside of the pipes, I am concerned that they could freeze on an extremely cold night because they wouldn't be getting much warmth from the inside because the insulation would be in the way. If I don't insulate near the pipes at all I know for a fact they would never freeze, because they'd get so much warmth from the bathroom (it has a register in it) but I'd lose a lot of my heat. What's the best solution?

Don't run any plumbing pipes on exterior walls. You can have your toilet up against the exterior wall provided the supply and waste lines are within the building envelope.

Rip the studs out and replace them. Redrill the holes for the pex in the center of the stud. Insulate on both sides of the pex. If the room is heated than the pipes will not freeze.

I live alone in a quaint 1bd1ba, never get visitors and just eat at my desk/coffee table so I turned the dining room into a little office. My current furniture set is particle board slab shit I got for free from a closing business over a decade ago. I really like its basic design, but it's a bit too damaged and stained for now and I really want to try a built-in enclosure for my next PC upgrade. The planned corner set wouldn't be flush against the walls, so airflow shouldn't be an issue. My question is, is the built-in enclosure a shit idea even if I don't mind squeezing under the desk to install and dust it? Should I just do a shelf with ample space for an ATX case? I know DIY Perks did something similar with some gay floating desk, but I hate the horizontal entire-desktop-as-a-case design.

Suggestions for my incomplete dogshit design welcome.

My Advanced Realistic Humanoid Robots Project - #5

How to keep it scalable

To keep your architecture clean and safe from explosion:

Keep modules self-contained — only interact through a small, well-defined set of shared “interface files.”

Use inheritance or layering — e.g., /hands/common_rules.txt can hold reusable logic so you don’t repeat it ...
Got it — that’s actually a very interesting design and puts you in a much better position than the typical “one giant ruleset” that caused the classic combinatorial explosion problem.

Electricians drink a lot of cheap beer
Scrappy here again and I have found a gold mine, but with a hitch. Behind an electrical contractor's building there are some dumpsters that always contain beer cans and copper wires. Copper wires can get good money, especially the bare ones. But there is a homeless male living in a tent here and he says that all of it is his and he threatened to cut me. I told one of the electricians and he said that the cops won't do anything. This situation is intolerable because the dumpsters are often full when the hauler arrives, so the bum actually collects nothing. What can I throw into his tent to neutralize him while I collect?

my work threw out a "labconco 30 inch fumehood". they were rennovating and it was going in the dumpster and i figured i could use it for soldering, or putting my 3d printer in, or sandblasting.

well that was about a year and a half ago and it's just been sitting in my garage.
the problem is i don't have a benchtop to mount it to. it's 30"x30"x48". which conveniently fits perfectly through normal doors.
however if i put a normal sized table under it, it'll no longer fit through doors, which are like 80" tall.
I want to keep the footprint able to fit through a door.

So, my plan is to make some sort of short table with wheels on it that I can jack up when it's where I want it to stay.
I've got 3 ideas for how to do this and I'm hoping you guys could sanity check me on these.

Is pee in the P trap going to corrode brass pipes faster? Same question for toilet flanges with cast iron soil pipes. Like if I pee in the toilet and don't flush, some pee goes down into the pipe and gets spread out across a horizontal run before getting to the main stack. If I don't flush...

DIY cnc mill
Thinking about building a small cnc mill for small steel and aluminum parts. I’d like to make the thing mainly out of aluminum extrusions.
I was thinking that a fixed gantry design like picrel would be the most rigid, except I’d like to mirror it so there are diagonal braces on both sides and to increase the depth of my work area.

Is this the most rigidity possible given the size and format constraints?

How did you set up your forces? It looks like you did it as a force in the +z direction, which for a drill press would be fine, but a mill will generally work more in the x and y then the z direction.

It also appears most of the deflection is due to the z axis/tool head. Suggesting addin...

Not trying to be a jerk anon, but if you put diagonal braces where there is the least of distortion then you shouldn't expect much. Can you run another sim with braces protruding away from the bed?

I am at my wits end. I have a GE GTW460ASJ washing machine that will not stop failing a wash cycle due to an imbalanced load
I replaced the suspension rods, I made sure its level, I took it apart and inspected all components, belts, pump, vacuum line, etc.
I ran the diag, only shows unbalanced load error. everything else seems to be working.
It does not have a balance weight, but it will always go out of balance and end the wash cycle. I cant wash more than a few items of laundry at a time. Even if I place all the items in carefully and manually spin the drum to ensure its not wobbling, it will still go out of balance during the wash.
It usually ends up wrangling and knotting my cloths during the wash creating lobs of wet balled up clothing that causes it to go out of balance.
I have reviewed all available parts on this washer and dont see anything else that could be replaced or serviced.
What else could this be?

Well, if I had one, I would like to marry the idea of a homopolar motor and a vacuum tube. Instead of a conductive disc, rotating in a magnetic field the vacuum tube is corotated with a magnet.

Here we discuss microcontrollers (MCUs), single board computers (SBCs), and their accessories, such as Atmel mega and tiny AVRs (Arduinos), PICs, ARM boards such as blue/black pill STM32, ESP8266/32s, RP2040, Raspberry Pi, and others.

For general electronics questions (power supplies, level shifting, motor driving, etc.) please ask /ohm/.

>but that's too expensive
aliexpress.com (many parts here are fake, particularly specific parts out of stock in the above sites)

use DigiKey's or Octopart's parametric part search. Then purchase from one of the sellers listed above.

There is no defined starting point, grab a book and start reading or buy an arduino off ebay/amazon and start messing around. There are a plethora of examples online to get started.

another watch thread
Hello, I saw another watch thread here people were responding to so hopefully this question isn't too retarded. Pic related is my grandfather's old watch. It runs fine, but the second hand doesn't turn. I think it has to do with this copper wire you can see in the upper part of the mechanism. Anyone know what that's for/what it might be replacing? Potential fix? I know nothing about watch mechanics but I have a good amount of small general tools and my day job is electronics repair so I'm not bad with my hands.

Still hoping to figure out how to get this thing chiming. My only guess is that the hammer (pic related) is supposed to catch on the teeth in the gear to the left of it which is mostly covered with only 4 teeth showing. When that gear turns far enough, the hammer slips out of it and hits the chime (...

How to Change Smoke Detector Battery
>inb4 you're completely retarded
This one isn't at my house, so I can't just walk over there and mess with it, but I need to replace the battery. This thing is from the 2000s, so I'm wondering if the whole thing should be replaced. Do I just twist it, there's going to be a battery in there, and I just replace it? I do know that some of these are powered by the mains / grid power, but this one chirps every minute, and it's been doing this for years.

What type of battery is this likely going to use?
