Depends on your blowtorch and gas. If it can't get hot enough to melt steel I wouldn't trust it to braze anything even if brazing doesn't involve melting the base metal.
Need a recommendation on a reasonably priced welder to get back into it. I took welding in high school and I want to practice for work. Im an electrician so the bar for electrician welders is pretty low, but I still think I need practice. All we really do is stick.
>>2955158
Not him, but how's brazing in comparison? I do have blowtorch and gas already. Less so big bucks for new equipment.
>>2955109

Why are battery main switches made of steel and not copper or brass? In this picture, those are just washers, not contact pads. You're supposed to screw your cable terminal between the two nuts, so the bolt itself is the conductor.

the bolt is so big that it is not going to add any resistance to the circuit anyway. the contact mechanism inside is probably copper.
>>2954791
yo, one missthread on a copper and it is now a unique thread spacing.
>>2952133 (OP)
Copper is weak AF
No reason to have an insecure connection for 0.1% increased conductivity
>>2952133 (OP)
Do not buy the chinkshit anon. I had a cheap one where the rivets were so bad the top plastic part soft as fuck too couldn't hold the bar inside and the contact was very weak as in dangerous and it arced inside, destroying the soft "copper" bar that pivots to make contact.

>am I meant to get it right on the first try and never touch it again?
thats the assumption. most users have no desire to play battery cable roulette for entertainment
butter the terminations up with ox gard crank the nuts down and hope you never see it again

another watch thread
Hello, I saw another watch thread here people were responding to so hopefully this question isn't too retarded. Pic related is my grandfather's old watch. It runs fine, but the second hand doesn't turn. I think it has to do with this copper wire you can see in the upper part of the mechanism. Anyone know what that's for/what it might be replacing? Potential fix? I know nothing about watch mechanics but I have a good amount of small general tools and my day job is electronics repair so I'm not bad with my hands.

How to remove annoying af door pin?
Background (can skip): My door has developed an issue on rubbing against the frame, which is especially becoming problematic as the force required to open it is starting to pop the handle out of its socket. I recently discovered what typically creates this fault is misaligned hinges creating a larger gap at the top of the door frame (between the hinges) compared to the bottom, and upon examing this door, that seemed to be the case. So I have to remove the hinge and then realign the hinges, however:

Problem: I can't for the life of me get this pin out the hinge. I initially tried to tap it out using a punch and hammer from the bottom up, however after closer inspection, and getting nowhere, it seems like the pin may have been inserted upside-down, as the bottom of the pin appears to be wider than the top. I then tried tapping it out the other way, but also nothing. I've also tried spraying it down with half a bottle of WD-40 to try loosen things up, as well as using pliers; also nothing.

Any ideas? Will I just have the take the hinges off completely and get it out that way?

Clean power from dirty power generator
Just got these two 63cc 800w generators for 20 euros. They both run well and deliver their rated power but the problem is that they only generate dirty power, only good for lights and basic power tools like drills.
How do I get clean power from them so I can plug in my fridge and charge electronics without frying them during a power outage?

buy a pure sinewave inverter generator.

those things are shit. their voltage output is often too high 140v. you can adjust it, but then the frequency will drop.

Tumbleweed Infestation
/diy/ I'm in such a shit position at the moment. I've got a house that I've let the front and back get absolutely overrun with Russian Thistle (tumbleweeds)

Season is long over so not much I can do now.... But now I'm in a lovely predicament on how to get rid of this shit. I don't wanna keep spending money on it. I figure I can just pull a few a week crush them up and put them in a bin, since I don't really wanna just tackle a giant dumpster or something. But that still sucks. I don't care if my yard looks like shit for a while.

>My mower can't get over them
>Going through with a carbide blade isn't doing shit
>Don't wanna start a fire near my house
>Last quote I got to deal with the yard was like $1500 which is absurd

Any suggestions on what to do here? I figure I can just spend the next six months pulling them but that does suck

Thread 2950162
I recently moved to an apartment that's second floor street side, and the amount of dust I get is insane. I have to vacuum every day, sometimes twice a day.
I heard about Corsi Rosenthal boxes as DIY air purifiers and figured I'd give them a try since I think a conventional air purifier with my budget wouldn't do much, but I've encountered two roadblocks.
1. Box fans seem to be virtually non-existent in Europe. I've only found a 30cm desk one, though the guides online seem to recommend at least 50cm wide ones. Instead we got those circular ones, though I guess I could use cardboard to make a square frame for it.
2. Merv 13 filters which were recommended seem to also be an US thing, getting them in Europe costs me twice as much. I've read that HEPA filters don't work as well because of airflow pressure stuff that I'm too dumb to understand, so I don't know if there's an european Merv 13 equivalent.

So my question is, are there any europeans here who made CR boxes? And if so, what did you use, and did you manage to stay in a $200 budget?

So, together with a friend, we have decided to make our own console for fun and giggles. This surely is an undertaking but this is an idea we were considering for a long time and as we got more and more experienced with circuits, embedded programming, 3d printing and stuff like that, I feel like it would be finally in our reach.

I never really looked at other people's similar projects, I have no idea what I'm doing honestly, but I can write code and I can use google so I think we will figure it out and get there eventually.

You are right about the performance and clock speeds but FPGA dev is its own thing, if you have no prior experience with them it's not feasible to use them for a project of this scope. It's always fun when some of the software guys at work think that it can't be that bad, "it's just code" ...
Alright, I wrote testbed working. Now we can compare our implementation against the official emulator. The test crate elevates libtest functionality so it integrates nicely with our existing tests and can easily be ran from IDE along with debugger and other fancies.

I am designing a house, based off a kithome

My girlfriend says she wants to have a lot of kids, so three smaller bedrooms would essentially be boys, girls, toddlers

The concept is that the less used rooms like bathrooms are on the street side of the house, and the house is as far front of the property as possible. This gives a larger backyard with the living room and all bedrooms having glass sliding doors that open directly onto the rear deck into the garden.

not sure about that toilet on the left. Bathrooms all have double showers because it's really a cheap thing to do, and allows efficiency in the morning

I think the Rumpus would be kind of a computer room for kids to have their games consoles and computers in a space that's still public, but not going to spread noise to the whole house

I am using black semi-gloss which I now think is a mistake and I should have used flat black since the surface was only very lightly sanded.

is there a paint for wood that works best to cover all the imperfections? I shocked the sheets looks so bad because they are smooth, but it is as if they were treated with something chemically. The crown molding i used looks great of course, smooth prepped surface already.

Also this is a latex paint. Valsar

Crane Adventures
Alright I've been having a hell of a time trying to find a simple design for a post based wood crane. It's not going to be handling heavy loads, it's to help lift me groceries up my rather steep porch cause I'm lazy. I had some work done and had the gents attach a post. Now I've salvaged the painted post to the right of it for potential reuse. I plan on getting a cheap winch and then mounting it either on the unpainted post or the painted which I plan to make the boom. I had planned on using a swivel base, but I was rethinking and they don't do well with the sheer that the design would cause. So do any of you old bones know if what I can use to do this? I'm not deadset on using the painted post.

Note that the base is only bolted to the rail so this crane cannot accommodate much of a load and it isn't going to be used for that. The winch will be hand powered

I am jerry-rigging a 40 watt guitar amp up to a 750 watt inverter connected to a 12V LiFePO4 battery. There's other effects pedals too. All run off the inverter. Need suggestions on where I can go to test this out with the volume cranked while running a decibel measuring app on my phone to get some idea of how loud the 55 yo 85 decibel volume is. Some kinda wide open space where no permit is needed so that its still legal to try it out there would be ideal. Any suggestions on where to go other than some beach that nobody visits?

Lots of amps use 18v. Tools and laptops use 18v. It's completely pointless to switch back and forth between dc and ac and dc again.

So i ordered a silicone sex doll. Long story short, it was damaged during shipping. It was stored upside down, the neck bolt actually tore through cardboard box and for part of journey was being dragged across a dirty floor by neck bolt. Area was black when i got it and ive since cleaned it up. Due to the stress of transit, the silicone that surrounded the neck bolt was detached.

Looking for recommendations for adhesive or glue that could bond silicone with what im guessing is plastic. Tried contacting manufacturer for assistance but havent heard anything and dont think they are going to be much help. Luckily all the damage is to the neck stump so its not visible normally. Only when head is off

Cost between prefab kit vs buying material myself
I want to build a small home on my family land. A bedroom, kitchenette and living/diningg room, bath and maybe an office space. Just something to give me a bit more privacy and room from my mother.

Would it be cheaper to buy a kit (something like pic rel which would run me about 45k) or get a plan from somewhere and buy the material from a local home goods shop as I go? I have 10k I could pay in cash right now the rest I'd need to finance.

You just need to put in foundation piles and then add brackets after it's set.

It's really easy to spend $20k buying materials yourself

Solar system upgrade: 2440w to 6890w & FLA to LifePO4
Project started in June 2024 at this house/location. prior to that, it was installed and in service at our old house since October 2020. we removed it when we sold the old suburban house in June 2023, it sat at the new house in storage while we built the equipment shed and just generally got settled in. reinstalled the original 2440w Qcells (seen on roof) & FLA Trojan T-1275 (750Wh usable) setup in June 2024. October 2025 I had finally saved up enough cash to purchase the upgrade: 10 additional Canadian Solar 445w monofacial panels & 3x Pytes V5 LiFePO4 (15,530Wh usable) storage.

installation was done in stages. 1st weekend in October 2025 I installed the LiFePO4 batteries. over the following 2 weeks I built the 1st array ground mount frame structure out of reclaimed wood. I used unistrut for the actual mount rails. 3rd week of Oct. I ordered panel clamps and MC4 cable, wife and I installed the panels on that Saturday. first full solar day was Sunday 18th. on Friday 24th I began installing the 2nd 5 panel array mount, this time out of steel tube recovered from an exterior remodel at an apartment worksite. I cut and welded optimum solar angle steel plates on the posts & embedded in concrete. unistrut was used for rails, again. still had clamps from 1st install & ordered another set of MC4 cable to connect in series with the 1st array. today, Sunday November 2nd was the first full solar day with the complete 6890w array.

this project is officially complete. PV array provides 5x our typical hourly load. Batteries cycle from 100% SOC to 35% taking us from 17:00 to 2:00 off-grid. we purchase Grid power for ~7 hours between 2:00 to ~8:30 totalling ~7 to ~11kwh nightly. our seasonal usages varies from ~20Kwh winter to ~50Kwh summer. I estimate that our system will cover ~85% of our annual usage. 85% reclaimed materials.

pardon the rubbish in the initial project photo. I had to remove all everything in the shed to access building materials and installation supplies.

DIY cnc mill
Thinking about building a small cnc mill for small steel and aluminum parts. I’d like to make the thing mainly out of aluminum extrusions.
I was thinking that a fixed gantry design like picrel would be the most rigid, except I’d like to mirror it so there are diagonal braces on both sides and to increase the depth of my work area.

Is this the most rigidity possible given the size and format constraints?

Not trying to be a jerk anon, but if you put diagonal braces where there is the least of distortion then you shouldn't expect much. Can you run another sim with braces protruding away from the bed?
Use rectangular steel sections, bolt it together, and fill with either cement or sand.
Aluminum extrusions are not rigid and are not vibration dampening, they're also too light.

Would this work?
snare-style trap for upside-down ankle hanging in a BDSM context. Remember, this is for consensual fantasy play only—always use RACK principles, safe words, a spotter, and limit sessions to avoid risks like inversion sickness or nerve damage.

- 50-100 feet of conditioned bondage rope (6-8mm jute or hemp for grip; soft cotton/nylon for beginners to avoid burns).
- Sturdy anchor (e.g., tested tree branch, beam, or suspension frame rated for 2x body weight).
- Pulley system or carabiner for smooth hoisting.
- Thin cord/fishing line for trigger (invisible for surprise).

This combines a basic running loop "snare" for the ankle (like a single-column tie) with a tripwire trigger that activates a gentle hoist, inverting the person. It's inspired by shibari ankle ties and suspension basics, but modified for surprise

1. **Prepare the snare loop**: Fold 20-30 feet of rope in half to create a bight. Form a large running loop (12-18 inch diameter) at one end using a slip knot—wrap the working end around itself twice, pass through to create a noose that tightens smoothly but not sharply. This goes on the floor, hidden under grass for the trap element.
2. **Set the upline and anchor**: Attach the other end of the rope to a pulley or carabiner at your anchor point (e.g., over a branch). Run it down to connect to the snare loop. Add a counterweight or manual pull line (light, like 5-10 lbs) or heavier?
3. **Add the surprise trigger**: Tie fishing line to the snare's pull end. Stretch it ankle-high across the path as a tripwire, connected to a simple release (e.g., pin or clip). When tripped, it tightens the loop around the ankle and initiates the hoist, inverting them upside down.
5. **Activation and release**: Lure with bait (e.g., a money). Upon tripping, the loop secures the ankle, and the upline hoists.

One bead of spray foam will insulate infinitely better than compressed fiberglass
Loose/expanded fiberglass or foam backer rod would also work

I did it. I doubt air is a better insulator than packed fiber glass. Also, if your window has drafts for some reason down the road it should help minimize that.

my work threw out a "labconco 30 inch fumehood". they were rennovating and it was going in the dumpster and i figured i could use it for soldering, or putting my 3d printer in, or sandblasting.

well that was about a year and a half ago and it's just been sitting in my garage.
the problem is i don't have a benchtop to mount it to. it's 30"x30"x48". which conveniently fits perfectly through normal doors.
however if i put a normal sized table under it, it'll no longer fit through doors, which are like 80" tall.
I want to keep the footprint able to fit through a door.

So, my plan is to make some sort of short table with wheels on it that I can jack up when it's where I want it to stay.
I've got 3 ideas for how to do this and I'm hoping you guys could sanity check me on these.
