/fat/ - Fat Loss General
>Who is /fat/ for?
For dieting ducks working towards a longer life and a better physique through meaningful hard-work, strategy, and dedication. This is not QTDDTOT, stick to questions on fat loss. Post height and weight when asking for advice.
Join our Fatty Contest: https://www.fattycontest.com/

>What do I do first?
1. Read https://physiqonomics.com/fat-loss/
2. Calculate your Body Fat Percentage: https://fitness.bizcalcs.com/Calculator.asp?Calc=Body-Fat-Navy
3. Calculate your TDEE: https://www.sailrabbit.com/bmr/
Remember to use bodyfat% and use Katch-McArdle Formula with sedentary settings or your TDEE will be too high.
4. Plan your weight loss: https://www.losertown.org/eats/cal.php
5. Track your nutrition with MyFitnessPal (better for packaged food), Cronometer (better for generic food/macros), LoseIt (great for both), or Waistline (FOSS).

>Now what?
Count calories, all of them.
Eat about 500-1000 less calories than your TDEE.
Buy scales, be accurate.
Learn to cook. Try to stick to lean protein and green vegetables.
Eat a lot of protein. 0.72g per pound of goal lean body mass.
Doing cardio, even just walking, will improve your health. There is no such thing as a healthy fat heart, but you can offset the risks.
Lifting weights will keep and gain muscle mass and lose fat much quicker. Not lifting results in the body eating away muscle AND fat.
Drink more water.
Read the /fit/ sticky: https://liamrosen.com/fitness.html

>DON'T
Eat refined sugars, they're terrible for you regardless of calories.
Eat processed foods.
Drink your calories (alcohol, soda, Starbucks).
Freak out over a weight loss stall. Plateaus can last up to three weeks.
"Reward" yourself. Cheat days cheat only yourself.

I have like 120 pounds of lean body mass at 6’1 + 35 lbs fat if the navy calculator is right. So if I want a healthy 12% body fat I should aim for 130 ish pounds? I obviously can’t build muscle mass when I’m on enough of a calorie deficit to burn all that fat despite doing push ups every day and eating 50+ proteins. So I guess that’s a problem to worry about after I hit my body fat goal.

I haven't eaten at caloric surplus once for 8 months.

Today I ate around 3500 cals with a TDEE around 2700. I'm kinda mad, but I'm also only BMI 23.9 currently so could be worse.

I'll be back in the green come the day after tomorrow's 1000 cal deficit.

I'm officially back to being obese.
Most of the weight was put on in the last 8 months.
Seen myself in a reflection on a glass door a couple of weeks ago and seen what I had become. Took me a few days to get down to it.
2nd day from start of diet. Yesterday wasn't great great because I still had lots of junk food in the house and my fat brain decided to eat it to get rid of it, 1900 kcal.
Did an OMAD today for 1400 kcal.
Feeling positive and determined.

8.5kg in 40 days is incredible.
A lot of people experience a quick start to weight loss and then they'll inevitably encounter a plateau period.
If nothing changes after 3 weeks consider making some changes to either the diet or your activities.

Absolutely. But for a lot of people weight loss is not linear. Whether they're lying to themselves and cheating with the diet or slacking off, who knows?
But a lot of people can get frustrated at a lack of progress so changing things up gives back a sense of control

Visceral fat is the 'stubborn' fat that your body likes to cling on to. Cardio while fasted is said to be best to get rid of it because of the adrenaline. The adrenaline sends signals to the receptors that release the fat from fat cells.

Bros. I'm weak. I want to be strong. I'm also very close to my goal weight. Ten more pounds. My coworkers are pissing me off because they don't want me to lose any more weight. I'm 6'4". Goal weight is 175lbs. That would put me just above the middle of the BMI scale. What I'd like to do is get to the bottom of the BMI scale. I've never been there before and now that the idea has planted itself in my brain, it won't away. The bottom of the scale for my height is 150lbs. I might not look good. I would be dangerously close to the 'underweight' section of the chart. I can't even explain why I want to do this. It would be like an experiment. What would it be like to be only 150lbs after being a fattie my whole life?

I agree, im not going for that at this time so it does not matter

As I said im not spending extra dollhairs on things I dont need at this time, I have more than enough

If you were at a proper gym you would have dumbell sets for that, if you are not poor you would also buy the 1kg 2lb increments when you need them, they arent' that expensive. When I'm at a gym and under massive load I don't want the dumbells to have a remote possibility of coming loose, clinking or anything like that. The hex rubber ones I have are also great for doing grip strength by claw grabbing and pich gripping the heads.

Now when I deadlife or squat, there is no other way to do so without plates.

Mindful of the calories I consume, but I don't weigh my food or count the calories down to the dot as life is too short for that. Just making sure that I hit my protein mark (around 150 gram per day) and making sure that half of what I eat are veggies, since hunger is my cryptonite. My advice is always use the minimum effective dose. Start with ozempic at .25 mg and increase until you find yourself not really wanting to snack but still with a healthy appetite and able to meet protein requirements. Hang out there as long as you can and only increase dose again when you must. Then move on to triz only if you hit the 2mg per week mark.

Lots of fags blast the shit too aggressively and wind up needing insane doses to keep their weight loss going. I suspect it’s women who want to never deal with ANY hunger and have the drug do all the work but still. Medical provider said we are stopping st 7.5 because it is effective enough. Meanwhile you read people on social media slamming 12.5 or 15. how do you know when to stop eating? basically i've lost 15-17 kg in 1-2 years, i've been stuck to the same weight for 4-5 months, but now idk what else to cut. i suspect the problem is that i can't stop eating until i'm full.
the things i've done are:
- swap regular sodas with diet sodas or everything that's low cal
- do at least some form of cardio everyday (like walking or exercise bike for at least 20+ minutes)
- reduce carbs and sugar + trying to eat more protein
- do at least 1 day per week 3 sets of push ups to failure and 3 sets of squats to failure (no equip)
- skip breakfast (i don't really feel very hungry)
- sometimes i do a one day fast

do i really need to hit the gym? atm my only goal is to not be overweight (6'2", 205 lbs).
i don't really count too much calories (i try to do it when i eat things that have already calculated cals values).

120.65kg

It happened... My family invited me to a bbq. I swear that I avoided most foods there, they had a potato/mayo salad there that looked delicious, I didn't eat a single bite out of it. They had farofa there(Brazilian dish made with cassava flour and butter, >4kcal/gram), didn't eat it. Didn't drink soda either, only water. Refused candy, refused dessert. I thought I stayed under TDEE. It was my OMAD, I fasted the day before, I ate less than everyone else there, including my thin family members, but I still gained 1.45kg. Like what in the actual fuck. Maybe I cope and say that "my glicogen reserves were depleted, maybe it's just water" or whatever the fuck, but I know I spend the whole week losing that extra weight, shit ain't water. So great, I could be like 118kg now, but I'm only 120kg, I only lost like less than 2kg this week because of sheer stupidity.

At least now I know what happens if I try to eat real human food, I just get fat. Not only did I not lose 0.3kg for the day, but I gained 1.45kg, so it's +1.75kg that I had to spend the whole week losing. CICOtards will say I ate more than TDEE, yeah, sure, 1.75kg more, what's that, 3000kcal + 13125kcal = 15000kcal? YEAH, surely I ate 15 fucking thousand calories in that lunch. -.-

I'll write off as an experiment. I have been feeling dreadful and sad the whole week. At least I know I will never do it again, because I never want to look at my graph for the whole week and see that I'm 2kg heavier than I should be just because I went to that stupid ass family gathering. It is not worth at all.

Long term I gained 1.75kg and until I hit my goal weight, I'll be 1.75kg heavier than I should be if I wasn't regarded. Or if you convert it to time, I'll hit it like 4~5 days later that I would have if I wasn't fucking regarded.
I dunno, I dislike brushing aside my stupidity, I prefer to dwell on it in order to not repeat it. At the end of the day it's okay, I've been fat for 25 years, not like 5 days will be the end of the world, but I would still like to at least hit the 100kg mark year so timing is already very tight, 20.65kg in 138 days(4.6months) is doable, but if I keep doing mistakes I'm not gonna make it

That's why gym bros use so much protein powder. If you look at "high protein recipes" on social media, I swear half of em are just "put normal ingredients in, then put protein powder over it". Like what's even the point, I'd rather eat food that tastes like food and then drink my protein shake separate rather than ruining the taste of food.

I figured it's pretty much impossible to hit protein goals with normal food while on a significant calorie deficit. It's only chicken breast. Like if you only eat chicken breast and nothing else which is one of if not the most protein-dense foods, say you wanna hit 175g of protein, chicken breast is 100g 31g protein 165 calories, you'd need 565g of chicken breast, and that's already 931 calories. >2 Eggo Homestyle Waffles = 180 cal, 4 g protein
>30mL Sugar free syrup = 15 cal
>Oikos Triple Zero Yogurt = 90cal, 15g protein

That breakfast is 52g protein and you're only at 530 calories, you get a plate full of eggs and cheat-tier waffles covered in what tastes mostly like syrup and some flavored yogurt. If you ate this 4 times a day you would get 208g protein and 2,120 calories, exceeding your goals with room to spare.
You can and should substitute the waffles for something more nutritious to do even better, and before I get (you)s about it, this is obviously not meant to be ideal but rather to stress the limit. The point of including them was to illustrate how you can be include non trivial amounts of complete junk and still get low calorie high protein meals.
Chicken breast and rice is not the only option by any stretch of the imagination, and if you start including things like protein powder shakes, greek yogurt and egg whites you're basically in cheat mode.

This is definitely not sustainable and you'll probably lose whatever muscle you have without any weight training, but yes a massive restriction of calories like this coupled with cardio will get you to lose weight quickly.

The most likely outcome is that you quit after a few days and binge back to where you started, also maybe injure yourself going from what I assume is zero activity to multiple miles per day. However, if maximally capitalizing on this spurt of motivation snowballs into more motivation, then maybe it won't be worthless. I would suggest a more measured approach, with a more reasonable deficit and amount of cardio that you can keep up for the long term, plus weight training. You can try it your way and then instead of relapsing completely when it gets unbearable, plan out your transition into something more reasonable?

I can absolutely guarantee you that Croatia has olive oil, eggs, egg whites, frozen waffles, sugar free syrup and flavored greek yogurt, even if they don't have all the same brand names.
If cost is the issue, nobody here can help you, just eat less rice or get another job or something.

Anyone else drink (drank) regularly? I've not had one for almost a week and I'm so fatigued and sore all the time. Is this normal?

Fasting made me realize that my whole family and me spend our whole goddamn time chewing something out of boredom. It's actually an eye opener.

My house doesn't have readily grabbable snack shit deliberately

Yeah possibly.
You just have to do it for like 5 months.

More realistically is just cutting out excess and doing a little more activity and easily doing that for 10 months.

A lot of people are retarded and think you need like 300g protein/day. 120 is plenty for most people. They’re out here doing silly stuff proteinmaxxing each meal to be like 100g which is just wholly unnecessary, expensive and autistic.

You should learn to like lean meat because reducing fat is the fastest way to reduce calories. You still need a solid amount of dietary fat but no more pork belly or short ribs. Chicken and rice is common because it’s easy. Instead it could be lean beef and potatoes or pork chops and beans or salmon and polenta etc etc

Complete up to you. If you’re asking what’s truly optimal, cut until you’re at 11% body fat or so. You’re going to have to lose that fat eventually so why not get started. The second most optimal is to cut until you can’t stand it anymore. That’s also fine. We don’t need you giving up because you’re going insane cutting 8 months in a row. Do it all the way, or at least as long as you can.
