Well take it from this schizophrenic long time fan, normal people playing a game and engaging with it tend to get attached to characters. That's what makes them characters, they're personable.
Now why do you think people get upset over animals getting harmed? They're innocent, and we're humans-- we shouldn't kill or hurt for no reason, especially if the animals are defenseless.
Certainly it's schizophrenia to say that pixels can feel pain. Yet, the pixels tell you in so many words, "I thought you're my friend! Why are you doing this?" They're confused-- programmed, yes-- but confused nonetheless. They're innocent too. Some of them are defenseless. Why wouldn't we apply the same treatment we'd give to animals, even insects, to something even less than either?
Do they deserve less than that? If we're given that complete and utter power, why would we choose to kill and hurt?
Is it, perhaps, because they're so personable? We do tend to get more upset over innocent creatures getting hurt after all.
Doesn't that make things a little more complicated then?
Anyway. Fuck you Vinny.
