What people don’t understand is that to a large degree, Iranians used Islam as a vehicle to spread their own thought and culture. If you learn about the Umayyads, the caliphate which took over right after Muhammad’s death, you’ll find that it was Arab supremacist, and you’ll learn that their treatment of Iranians after the Arab conquest in large part brought about the Abbasid Revolution which overthrew them; the Abbasid Revolution also allowed Iranian opposition groups with syncretic pre-Islamic influences to influence the shaping of Shia culture. Look at the ethnicity of the prominent intellectuals who came from the Islamic Golden Age, most of them were arguably Iranic people. Suhrawardi, who had influence from Zoroastrian sources, created much of the philosophy that shaped the curriculum of contemporary Iranian philosophers and even Shia theologians. Islam and Iran are inseparable, it’s shallow to assume you can just cut that away and adopt some reconstructed larp of pre-Islamic Zoroastrianism like Wiccans
