Sometimes on my commute I try and guesstimate how many people I'm next to are actively productive and how many people work in compliance for some over-regulation or some nonsense makework job producing material that nobody reads to fulfill some useless statutory obligation written into existence by fiat without any natural demand.
When you consider just how many people make their money from the government in some way - whether it's UC + PIP, a civil service job, regulatory compliance, gov consulting etc. There's little real opportunity in this country, and fewer still actually productive people, but there's one big nipple and you better believe everyone is queuing up for a taste.
