IIRC ranking is based on average stats and skills so whether the Uma is good or not in a race doesn't actually matter much, using split decks can actually be better since it gives you more rounded stat spreads and doesn't rely as much on RNG to get decent or better trainings.

There's some stuff that makes me think the devs themselves don't really get how the races work in the game.
Like how story rivals will often get really beefed up stats that amount to shit all as they either get boxed, or even if they don't, get mogged by random NPCs or an interfering Golshiwagon out of nowhere.
