Don't worry too much about it. As someone who had that kind of response to UT, it mostly comes down to being at the right place at the right time.
After a certain age it becomes harder for any game, movie, etc to hit quite as hard. If I played it now without any context, I would have still liked it but it wouldn't have affected me as much.

I think my problem with Noelle is that from her first actually relevant scene you can immediately tell Toby is forcing Suselle because of his eternal yuri fetish, and that kind of ruins any actual development the ship could get in the future.
