Goods are sold at the highest value consumers are willing to pay for that product. To increase prices would lose customers and overall profits as people buy less expensive options or don't buy at all. Tariffs on said goods put companies between a rock and a hard place where they neither option is desireable. Lose profit margin or lose sales. In markets where domestic goods are close in value this will force the company to eat the costs due to competitive pricing with untariffed competition. In markets with no domestic options the importer can raise prices, but at the cost of customers and creating greater demand for domestically produced competiton. The trump tariffs are some of the biggest tax hikes on businesses in the US and somehow people bitch. And thosed that outsourced years ago are affected while those that didn't and stayed with the American people are sitting pretty. I don't get why people are so up in arms.
