The main villain is Xal'atath, the shadow priest artifact weapon from Legion.
She destroyed Dalaran and almost kills Khadgar, who survives by turning into energy and hiding in her macguffin amulet. She teams up with the local Nerubians as well as Gallywix and has them collecting old god blood for her. (I don't actually remember what purpose this serves or if it was actually mentioned at this point)
During a fight between Xal and Aleria the amulet gets cracked and Khadgar manages to escape but ends up in a wheelchair for a bit. Xal brings the amulet to Gallywix to fix it for whatever reason.
During all of this, the void lords/Ethereals have their own agenda that involves the amulet, which Gallywix accidentally hands off to them shortly before he's killed in the recent raid because he thought they were working with Xal.
This brings us to the upcoming patch which will be centered around whatever the Ethereals have been cooking up which involves Dimensius being absolutely fucking massive.
