Just in case you don't know the context, Kris and Susie just went through a deeply harrowing adventure to save Toriel.
Susie finds out something that visibly shakes her, even through the tough facade she puts on.
The two of them slowly go back through town while a very melancholy song plays.
Then once you get back home, you see Sans and Toriel dancing like that.
Toriel is clearly very drunk, and didn't really care about where her son was the whole day. (For all she knows, It's dangerous. Her tires were just slashed, and the chief of police went missing last night)
Susie and Kris look very uncomfortable at this, and Susie decides to not stay the night like she originally planned.
Toriel says that if you're hungry, there's leftover pancakes in the fridge, but if you go to check, it's just a bottle of ketchup.
Kris ends up not being able to sleep because of their incessant dancing and laughing.

I think the issues people have is that Toriel didn't even take a half second break to notice that these kids were out late, and worried about her. They're very clearly shaken up about something. There was no talking to them, or paying the two of them any mind other than trying to introduce them to Sans.
Toriel even falls over, and would have landed on Kris if he didn't move out the way.
I didn't feel this way at first, but now playing through it again, it really seems like we're supposed to be disturbed by this behavior, and think less of Toriel because of it.

Between this, Asgore, and Suselle, I'm starting to think either Toby's lost his touch on writing likable romance, or he's gearing up for an amazing conclusion where these plot threads have satisfying and unexpected conclusions.
Asgore ends up being a hero who saves the town, and proves that he didn't do whatever Toriel divorced him over.
Susie and Noelle agree to just stay friends because her sister can't just be replaced by any random mean girl.
Toriel realizes just how much her own actions cause Kris to shut down and remain as anti-social as he is. And she grows as a person in the process.
All in time for Asriel to come home to the happy ending.

I'm not entirely convinced, but I think Asgore is a good candidate.
He's got a Shadow Crystal, meaning he at least knows about the Dark World. (plus, the disappearance of Dess is implied to have some involvement with him and dark worlds)
He's working closely with Carol, who we know is directing Kris.
After the church scene, he's seen coming from the trees to the south east. And the only thing in that direction is the bunker.
Susie even says that they're looking for someone who goes to church, and has a connection to the police, and the mayor.
Kris knows Asgore fits those requirements, but said nothing.

It's all about context.
In Undertale, Toriel was all alone and Sans was her only friend. The bond they shared and the promise he made is the only reason the player character is even able to exit the ruins. In addition, Sans was much more likable than Deltarune. He came across like an uncle, someone who would joke around with you but always had your best interests at heart.

In DR Toriel gets drunk and screws a dude she met two days ago while her son is missing. Plus Sans has been a total asshole to you and Susie up to this point for seemingly no reason. There's also evidence that the divorce in this universe was over a misunderstanding, where as in UT Toriel had a much more justified reason to hate Asgore.

When you put everything in context it makes more sense, the versions of these characters in this game are a lot less likeable than Undertale.

It's because the Knight knows the code to the bunker. It's a lead, not a certainty.
It also doesn't matter that it appears in the Dark Worlds. As far as her and Kris are concerned, they and the Knight are the only ones who know about the Dark Worlds. And they both already know that Darkners can't come to the light world to use the code, so any association that symbol has to Dark Worlds is merely religious mythology to anyone except the Knight. Hence why you're looking for someone who goes to the church.
The only way we'd even know that Asgore goes to church, and was a policeman is through easily missable interact dialogue. That's the most compelling evidence to that, I think. The fact that it's so easy to miss the clues.
