Redeemer has more dakka, Warrant is a direct upgrade, Verdict is the bigger brother, Talon being competition for the Verdict, and the Senator being the biggest hitter.

The baseline Liberator will see you through many scenarios. It kills chaff, can punch slightly above its wage, and thats all it needs to do. There's several options for other playstyles, but if you want a gun that is a good all-rounder, the base Liberator will see you through.

You're supposed to unlock stuff. Completing missions gains medals, samples and exp. exp stops mattering after level 20 and gets a boost from doing missions fast, doing 100% of the objectives and outposts, and extracting. Samples are only available in large numbers in certain missions. Medals are boosted by completing multiple missions in an operation. If any of the terminology is unfamiliar to you, I can explain it.

you could argue the same way how the MG43, a general purpose machine gun, is very much so general purpose. it will get rid 90% of your problems, while still being able to punch above its weight if used in the right hands.

That's the thing, it was never intended to be a method of obtaining large amounts of SC. Their entire intent with the system was that it'd be the occasional dripfeed of SC, that could maybe help you get a SuperStore item or a warbond, provided you had enough SC in your account already.
They did nerf it previously, and have said that they're looking to rebalance it to be "more fair" (and that farming low difficulties for it was never their intention).

Is it just me or is the Lib Carbine underwhelming? I got it and loved it at first. But it just feels like it has zero ammo. I got it all the way up to 24, I have the drums, still feels like it pisses everything out in ten seconds on higher difficulties.

Bugs? Actually real solid, does feel like a Smallwart, but still runs out fast and doesn't justify taking like AT only as a secondary. Bots? Can headshot I guess, but better served taking almost anything else or Libpen. Illuminate? Seems like it'd be good. Chaff kills, focus down Overseers. But if you consistently fight for even two minutes your whole reserve is gone.

Most fun I've had with it was actually the short mags and supply pack to just basically never stop firing/fast reloading. I feel like I'm missing something but it feels super underwhelming resource wise compared to how many people say it's top-tier.

What they don't tell you is that a LibCarb Drum build only really gets much mileage with Siege Ready and being ready to get resupplies or a supply pack on standby.
