What parts do I need for a system that opens and closes a small hatch on a 12 hour timer? I can handle mechanical parts myself, but am certifiably retarded when it comes to electronics. I can just put parts together according to instructions, so what parts exactly do I need to make something like this?

Covert smoker. /diy/
I can't have a smoker in the apartment I'm in, but I badly want a smoker.
I am just enough of a redneck to know as long as your heat isn't that high you can make a smoker out of litterly anything that slows the smoke down from just blowing away.
Now the issue with all my designs is they still roll enough smoke to get the FD called on me.
I need to figure out a way to keep good air flow but reduce smoke coming out of the smoker.
Also it needs to be small. Like Webber kettle grill sized.

I am thinking a wet sponge or even wet wash clothes over a chimney might be the key.

Let me know what you all are thinking.

I am designing a house, based off a kithome

My girlfriend says she wants to have a lot of kids, so three smaller bedrooms would essentially be boys, girls, toddlers

The concept is that the less used rooms like bathrooms are on the street side of the house, and the house is as far front of the property as possible. This gives a larger backyard with the living room and all bedrooms having glass sliding doors that open directly onto the rear deck into the garden.

not sure about that toilet on the left. Bathrooms all have double showers because it's really a cheap thing to do, and allows efficiency in the morning

I think the Rumpus would be kind of a computer room for kids to have their games consoles and computers in a space that's still public, but not going to spread noise to the whole house

is there any benefit to a wood stove/pellet stove if i already have a gas furnace and im only paying $3.60/mcf

i cant imagine after the hidden expenses of wood (stacking, drying, splitting, hauling) it comes out ahead vs a literal pipe that delivers gas into a furnace. the only exception is if you are a britbong or a eurofag with insane energy prices

i do think they are comfy af but id rather get a fireplace for the aesthetics at that point.

Thinking about building a small cnc mill for small steel and aluminum parts. I’d like to make the thing mainly out of aluminum extrusions.
I was thinking that a fixed gantry design like picrel would be the most rigid, except I’d like to mirror it so there are diagonal braces on both sides and to increase the depth of my work area.

Is this the most rigidity possible given the size and format constraints?

The idea is to keep the rural wood feeling but improve it's mayor issues; in heat (floor with wood and dirt, no protection on the inner wall); aesthetic (zinc plate for the outer walls); and choosing innovative materials that you would recommend.

If it's useful the house is like a mix between German-Chilean architecture (pic related) and those hunter of the woods homes you see in the movies.

So i ordered a silicone sex doll. Long story short, it was damaged during shipping. It was stored upside down, the neck bolt actually tore through cardboard box and for part of journey was being dragged across a dirty floor by neck bolt. Area was black when i got it and ive since cleaned it up. Due to the stress of transit, the silicone that surrounded the neck bolt was detached.

Looking for recommendations for adhesive or glue that could bond silicone with what im guessing is plastic. Tried contacting manufacturer for assistance but havent heard anything and dont think they are going to be much help. Luckily all the damage is to the neck stump so its not visible normally. Only when head is off

I’ve been trying to reach you (pls respond to my dm's). The secret to living longer is monoatomic gold remember the Smurf guy who was drinking colloidal silver well the reason his skin turned blue was he oxidize because of the silver so if you drink atomize gold you’ll have an atom of gold with all your cells, and I think that prevents all kinds of illness that helps you live longer. Ormus. The semen of the gods, it’s a white powder made from gold. You just do electrolysis you put gold on the positive and negative electrons put it in water with a little bit of salt. Let it run for an hour on direct currents, then evaporate the water and the powder left over is gold. If you melted it, it would go back to solid gold however, it’s just a atomize gold.

For general electronics questions (power supplies, level shifting, motor driving, etc.) please ask /ohm/.

>where can I find verified quality microcontrollers and other electronic sensors or parts
digikey.com
mouser.com
arrow.com
newark.com

>but that's too expensive
aliexpress.com (many parts here are fake, particularly specific parts out of stock in the above sites)
lcsc.com

>I need a part that does X and Y, with Z specifications. How can I find it?
use DigiKey's or Octopart's parametric part search. Then purchase from one of the sellers listed above.

>how do I get started with microcontrollers, where should I start?
There is no defined starting point, grab a book and start reading or buy an arduino off ebay/amazon and start messing around. There are a plethora of examples online to get started.

How to Change Smoke Detector Battery /diy/
>inb4 you're completely retarded
This one isn't at my house, so I can't just walk over there and mess with it, but I need to replace the battery. This thing is from the 2000s, so I'm wondering if the whole thing should be replaced. Do I just twist it, there's going to be a battery in there, and I just replace it? I do know that some of these are powered by the mains / grid power, but this one chirps every minute, and it's been doing this for years.

What type of battery is this likely going to use?

Garden swing hinge /diy/
Bought the garden swing bench years ago—mostly solid, but the chain-on-shackle hinge is weak. Started squeaking, then the chain grooved the shackle. Now it jumps the groove on big swings, making a loud crack. Some swings use nylon spacers; I want bearings instead to make it last. Original shackle’s hard to replace, so I’d sleeve a bearing to fit inside it. Bearings handle static/dynamic loads; bolt is M10.
Thoughts on this fix?

Winch for logging /diy/
Average joe with forest property and ancient farm equipment here.
Need a winch to pull logs uphill and through ditches. Eventually i would also like to be able to pull down dead trees and add a log arch to my trailer.

picrel is the only reasonable winch you can get in my part of the free world. any more fancy than that and you're in unobtainium-territory as a hobbyist. only found two guys on the tubes reviewing this winch and they seem to shill it hard, but at that price point it's cheap enough to risk it.

dimension-wise the biggest logs will have a max. length of 3 meters / 10 feet and max diameter of 70 cm / 27.5 inch. so well within the pulling capacity.

not sure yet if it makes sense to build a log arch for my trailer as it has a higher center of gravity with 82 cm / 32 inch height. main goal really is not to be forced to split the wood by hand on site and walk uphill a million times.

what do you guys think? you got pics of your setup?

snare-style trap for upside-down ankle hanging in a BDSM context. Remember, this is for consensual fantasy play only—always use RACK principles, safe words, a spotter, and limit sessions to avoid risks like inversion sickness or nerve damage.

- 50-100 feet of conditioned bondage rope (6-8mm jute or hemp for grip; soft cotton/nylon for beginners to avoid burns).
- Sturdy anchor (e.g., tested tree branch, beam, or suspension frame rated for 2x body weight).
- Pulley system or carabiner for smooth hoisting.
- Thin cord/fishing line for trigger (invisible for surprise).

This combines a basic running loop "snare" for the ankle (like a single-column tie) with a tripwire trigger that activates a gentle hoist, inverting the person. It's inspired by shibari ankle ties and suspension basics, but modified for surprise

1. **Prepare the snare loop**: Fold 20-30 feet of rope in half to create a bight. Form a large running loop (12-18 inch diameter) at one end using a slip knot—wrap the working end around itself twice, pass through to create a noose that tightens smoothly but not sharply. This goes on the floor, hidden under grass for the trap element.
2. **Set the upline and anchor**: Attach the other end of the rope to a pulley or carabiner at your anchor point (e.g., over a branch). Run it down to connect to the snare loop. Add a counterweight or manual pull line (light, like 5-10 lbs) or heavier?
3. **Add the surprise trigger**: Tie fishing line to the snare's pull end. Stretch it ankle-high across the path as a tripwire, connected to a simple release (e.g., pin or clip). When tripped, it tightens the loop around the ankle and initiates the hoist, inverting them upside down.
5. **Activation and release**: Lure with bait (e.g., a money). Upon tripping, the loop secures the ankle, and the upline hoists.

Costume!

Always remember, it doesn't have to be the theme, post your work, post what you want to talk about as long as it has something to do with sewing in general, or the craft in general. We welcome everyone and will try our best to help you out. Yes, sewing is an art, it's a practicing art, you will always suck at it, but remember that everyone starts somewhere, so Google everything!

Or just show off your work.

BTW this thread has been going strong sense last Halloween and we're about to hit Halloween again! Neat!

DIY Pocket Console /diy/
So, together with a friend, we have decided to make our own console for fun and giggles. This surely is an undertaking but this is an idea we were considering for a long time and as we got more and more experienced with circuits, embedded programming, 3d printing and stuff like that, I feel like it would be finally in our reach.

I never really looked at other people's similar projects, I have no idea what I'm doing honestly, but I can write code and I can use google so I think we will figure it out and get there eventually.

I will post our progress in this thread.

Is there any reason besides cost and size in a bag to get a Dremel style, low wattage rotary tool over a Foredom style flex shaft grinder? And then is there any reason to get one of those over a die grinder type tool with a flex shaft added?

It seems you can the light, dexterous precision tool with more power and flexibility going this way, but what am I missing?
