Is there a /diy/ friendly way to make an adjustable height desk? Ideally simple and mechanical, not electric. I just don't really trust the ready built frames that I see for sale and need something bigger and sturdier like pic rel because I plan to have a ton of computer equipment on it and mount my monitors.
I know I can just use a cardboard box but I was hoping to make it pretty nice.

Hey /diy/

So there's a room with a tilted/slanted celing such as pic related.

I wanted to strip the existing dry wall from it, then make the celing level and redo the dry wall so it's a flat and I have some roof space and it looks a bit better.
It will give me space to add insulation as well as run some cables.
I can do all the drywalling myself but I don't know how to construct it in a way that deletes the black line and replaces it with the blue line without looking like shit or sagging.

Any pointers for how to go about/find the correct information?
It would be a timber frame roof.

Thanks /diy/

DIY TV Antenna /diy/
I built this DIY antenna out of an old coax cable. I used some garden snips to cut off one end and strip off the shielding (I don't recommend you do this, it's tedious as fuck and you gotta be extremely careful not to cut off the copper bits) and arranged the copper into a dipole.

I can only get 1 channel with this antenna, as this thing can only pick up stuff VHF transmissions that are really strong. I've tried repositioning the copper elements to better receive signals to no avail. This pic is my third version, the copper is bent to try and make it a bowtie.

I'll buy an antenna on Amazon, but I would still love advice on how to improve this antenna I made, namely increasing it's effectiveness and picking up UHF signals. I can only do suggestions that can be done easily at home, no power tools, additional devices to buy, etc. Preferably something with aluminum foil and cardboard.

The downside is the fire that burned on the area, seems to be mostly smoke damage and since walls are bloke/brick with rendering it could just be pressure washed and call it good, maybe apply a new layer of rendering. Tumbleweed Infestation /diy/
/diy/ I'm in such a shit position at the moment. I've got a house that I've let the front and back get absolutely overrun with Russian Thistle (tumbleweeds)

Season is long over so not much I can do now.... But now I'm in a lovely predicament on how to get rid of this shit. I don't wanna keep spending money on it. I figure I can just pull a few a week crush them up and put them in a bin, since I don't really wanna just tackle a giant dumpster or something. But that still sucks. I don't care if my yard looks like shit for a while.

>My mower can't get over them
>Going through with a carbide blade isn't doing shit
>Don't wanna start a fire near my house
>Last quote I got to deal with the yard was like $1500 which is absurd

Any suggestions on what to do here? I figure I can just spend the next six months pulling them but that does suck

Thread 2950162 /diy/
I recently moved to an apartment that's second floor street side, and the amount of dust I get is insane. I have to vacuum every day, sometimes twice a day.
I heard about Corsi Rosenthal boxes as DIY air purifiers and figured I'd give them a try since I think a conventional air purifier with my budget wouldn't do much, but I've encountered two roadblocks.
1. Box fans seem to be virtually non-existent in Europe. I've only found a 30cm desk one, though the guides online seem to recommend at least 50cm wide ones. Instead we got those circular ones, though I guess I could use cardboard to make a square frame for it.
2. Merv 13 filters which were recommended seem to also be an US thing, getting them in Europe costs me twice as much. I've read that HEPA filters don't work as well because of airflow pressure stuff that I'm too dumb to understand, so I don't know if there's an european Merv 13 equivalent.

So my question is, are there any europeans here who made CR boxes? And if so, what did you use, and did you manage to stay in a $200 budget?

Crane Adventures /diy/
Alright I've been having a hell of a time trying to find a simple design for a post based wood crane. It's not going to be handling heavy loads, it's to help lift me groceries up my rather steep porch cause I'm lazy. I had some work done and had the gents attach a post. Now I've salvaged the painted post to the right of it for potential reuse. I plan on getting a cheap winch and then mounting it either on the unpainted post or the painted which I plan to make the boom. I had planned on using a swivel base, but I was rethinking and they don't do well with the sheer that the design would cause. So do any of you old bones know if what I can use to do this? I'm not deadset on using the painted post.

Note that the base is only bolted to the rail so this crane cannot accommodate much of a load and it isn't going to be used for that. The winch will be hand powered

Solar system upgrade: 2440w to 6890w & FLA to LifePO4 /diy/
Project started in June 2024 at this house/location. prior to that, it was installed and in service at our old house since October 2020. we removed it when we sold the old suburban house in June 2023, it sat at the new house in storage while we built the equipment shed and just generally got settled in. reinstalled the original 2440w Qcells (seen on roof) & FLA Trojan T-1275 (750Wh usable) setup in June 2024. October 2025 I had finally saved up enough cash to purchase the upgrade: 10 additional Canadian Solar 445w monofacial panels & 3x Pytes V5 LiFePO4 (15,530Wh usable) storage.

installation was done in stages. 1st weekend in October 2025 I installed the LiFePO4 batteries. over the following 2 weeks I built the 1st array ground mount frame structure out of reclaimed wood. I used unistrut for the actual mount rails. 3rd week of Oct. I ordered panel clamps and MC4 cable, wife and I installed the panels on that Saturday. first full solar day was Sunday 18th. on Friday 24th I began installing the 2nd 5 panel array mount, this time out of steel tube recovered from an exterior remodel at an apartment worksite. I cut and welded optimum solar angle steel plates on the posts & embedded in concrete. unistrut was used for rails, again. still had clamps from 1st install & ordered another set of MC4 cable to connect in series with the 1st array. today, Sunday November 2nd was the first full solar day with the complete 6890w array.

this project is officially complete. PV array provides 5x our typical hourly load. Batteries cycle from 100% SOC to 35% taking us from 17:00 to 2:00 off-grid. we purchase Grid power for ~7 hours between 2:00 to ~8:30 totalling ~7 to ~11kwh nightly. our seasonal usages varies from ~20Kwh winter to ~50Kwh summer. I estimate that our system will cover ~85% of our annual usage. 85% reclaimed materials.

pardon the rubbish in the initial project photo. I had to remove all everything in the shed to access building materials and installation supplies.

Is this washer shutoff valve soldered to the copper pipe? /diy/
This washer shutoff valve (hot water) is leaking constantly lately. I am generally handy but inexperienced with this kind of plumbing (worked with PVC stuff only).

Basically I need to find out if this is the kind of thing I have the tools to remove and replace myself, or if I should just call a plumber.

Does this look like a soldered joint or some other kind of connection, I guess probably only threaded being the other option with copper piping?

All help is appreciated! Thanks

Are left hand drill bits worth it? /diy/
When I try to remove severed bolts using a regular drill bit and bolt extractor, it almost never works. It only works like 1 out of 10 times if I’m lucky.

Do left drill hand drill bits work? How many times out of 10 would you estimate does it work?

Previous home owners built a small ball court. I dont know what to do with this. I already have an elevated wood deck and small 2 car garage.

Options:
20x20 pole barn ontop
Massive patio area
Keep as sports court
Something else???

I am just not sure what would neat to have.

I want to start a Marijuana bar /diy/
For years I have refined the bong process to the point I want to share it.

We will have a menu with different options. To make it easy for even the novice to order.

Ready to consume, in the nicest glass, or hand rolled in the back to your specifics.

It will be wonderful

I have a bunch of 4x2(not exactly, it's 115mmx30mm) and I want to build this work bench. 1100mmx460mmx800mm
3 shelves on the right
Bracing at the bottom all around.
Is this timber adequate or do I need something else? I want something sturdy and will become tapping and gluing 4 boards to use as the bench top.
It's my Saturday project.
Thanks and sorry for the esl.

Halloween costume/decoration /diy/
Hello! I need some ideas for Halloween costume theme and also a guide or some advices on how to create this costume. I have never done costumes particularly, so it can be even just a cool mask, not the full suit. My goal is to be more scary than funny, so the costume should be threatening raththan goofy. Also some advices on how to decorate my flat+/doorway would be super good. Thanks in advance!

We have a bathroom in my parents house that, for the majority of my life, has super low pressure and my dad has spent years trying to figure out why and how to fix it.

As I know literally nothing about plumbing I'm curious what I can look into to even get an idea of where and how to get started.
