I'm one of those guys. Funny thing is that i'm the complete opposite of the faggot people imagine has those hangups. I've been in situations that could easily have been deadly. Felt nothing. Have hobbies that regularly kill their practitioners. Not worried. But triple-fuck cold approach with a red hot pitchfork. Rejection and embarassment cause me paralyzing physical anguish and having others witness this causes yet more embarassment and just turns it into a chain reaction of misery. I know, ugh, i know. I just can't do it is all. Then there's the ones who would be deliberately mean. Hell no. That can simply never happen to me and i don't care how weird this is to old people who consider it both inescapable and merely inconvenient. Yes, i much prefer first contact over phone. You know you pass each others looks filter so it's not that daunting anymore. If it goes wrong i don't have to pretend everything is fine so no one thinks i'm cReEpY while i'm actually dying of shame on the inside. And if it doesn't, i feel like my odds are good, so it's much less stressful and easier to be confident about the whole thing. Yes, i prioritize minimizing failure and discomfort ahead of overall success, yes i need to have grounds to believe i have a chance before i do anything and any criticism of this will just make me pull an "ok boomer" on you. I'm sure i could get better quality and triple the numbers enduring the torture that "making the first move in person" necessarily entails but you know what? No thanks bro, i'm good. This is as good as it gets in my cost-benefit calculation. Nothing sad about it. The trend has been eliminating discomfort through technology for a long time now and i bet if match group weren't such greedy jews it would work much better than it does.
