Umps are heavily influenced by a catcher's body language, perhaps to an absurd degree. The art of finessing your movements to make it appear that a ball that's outside the zone is actually in is called "framing". Well this catcher did the absolute worst framing to help his cause possible by shuffling so far to the side that he had to reach out his arm for something down the middle.
