This was never entirely about the debt or truly selfless motives though. I consider myself nonpartisan and objective, but it is clear to me that there was an element of self-interest for his own profits, the NASA pick made that abundantly clear and his outrage at the EV incentives being dropped made it further obvious. Beyond self-interest, there was also the element of narcissism, and a power fantasy to complete his self-esteem needs that he was on the winning team and potentially helped make it possible, making him the richest AND most powerful man alive in his mind. He was also clearly distraught by his one trans faggot son/daughter/what have you, and that's really what sent him over to the republicans in the first place, I'm sure ketamine use did not help any of these psychological issues that he was dealing with
I think he also expected to be continued to given the benefit of the doubt by the publc at large because of his aspergers and childlike personality, but the reality is most neurotypicals only appreciate those "qualities" when they're solely put to innovative ventures. Otherwise, it just makes a you fucking asshole that nobody likes and everyone ridicules
The debt issue is somewhat of an issue, but I doubt it will destroy the USA long term. The powers that be will find a way to keep the choo choo gravy train going, indefinitely, even at the cost of others outside of the tribe. What's anyone going to do anyway, declare war on the USA to get their debts paid ? That's a death sentence
