Very little, this isn't Colombia. The bigger risk in Thailand is scams, but this is mostly just if you try to have an ongoing situation with a girl, it's not common with one off meetings.

New England thread
I wanna take a road trip around New England this October. I'm driving up from the south, with my main destination being Salem MA, and stopping in some other cool attractions in MA and CT along the way. What are some good stops along the way? It'll be October, so I'm particularly looking for spooky, Halloween, or just general Fall themed attractions, but any interesting suggestions are welcome. I'll probably come back during Thanksgiving to see the rest of the region too.

>What is this thread? Why are there two generals?
/rcg/ was initially created as a way for the roller coaster enthusiasts on here to discuss all things roller coasters and theme parks. While roller coasters are the main focus of these threads (and the title of the general) there is also discussion on other theme parks, their rides, as well as the parks themselves and trip planning too. That's where /tpg/ comes in.
>Can I talk about Disney/Universal parks in this thread?

How to defend yourself from kidnappers in Mindanao Philippines while travelling?
Muslims beheaded Canadian mining company consultants in Mindanao who were helping torture and kill indigenous Lumads.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Ridsdel

>At the time of the kidnapping, he was retired. Prior to that he had been working for the mining company TVI Resource Development Philippines Inc.,[3] a subsidiary of Canada's TVI Pacific, where he was also a consultant.

>Ridsdel was kidnapped by Abu Sayyaf militants in the Philippines on 21 September 2015, in a raid on Holiday Ocean View Samal Resort, on Samal Island in the southern Philippines.[4] After the gunmen disarmed the resort's security guards, they abducted four people from the resort, the Canadians John Ridsdel and Robert Hall, the resort's Norwegian marina manager Kjartan Sekkingstad, and a Filipino woman, Teresita Flor.[5]

>The kidnappers later issued demands for a hefty ransom to be paid for the release of the hostages, reportedly 300 million pesos (around $6.5 million) for each of the three foreigners seized. As the deadline lapsed on 25 April 2016, they apparently beheaded Ridsdel.[6] Ridsdel's head was found in a plastic bag in Jolo.[7] A headless body, possibly Ridsdel's, was later found by villagers by a creek bed near Talipao. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police launched an international murder investigation.[8]

The company he worked for was involved in torturing and killing indigenous Lumad people (Lumads are not Muslim btw)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TVI_Pacific

>In 2015 TVI was mentioned along with several other mining companies as being the likely beneficiary of a series of government-funded murders of the indigenous Lumads who live in the Mindanao region of the Philippines, an area rich in mineral resources to which these companies would like better access.[3]

Is there something in the water in Sinai?
I don't know where to ask this, here's the deal:

Since I reproduced I'm taking my family to safe resorts. We've been twice to Sinai - once in Taba and once in Sharm El Sheikh. Both times ended up with us puking and shitting our guts out after a week. Something like that never happened anywhere else in Egypt or in rest of the world (East Africa, Caribbeans, South America, SEA etc.) and we exclusively eat hotel food and drink bottled water.

Was that just a bad lucks? Anyone knows something about some particular virus or bacteria in Sinai?

Italian Travel
Spending a week a friend's house in Venetto Italy. Went to Venice, Bologna, Rovigo, Verona, Revana, Forli.
Pros:
- Not insanely hot
- Amazing Food
- Beer is not as bad as I thought it woul be.
- Everyone looks good, the wops are actually white.
- Surprisingly affordable if you aren't dumb.
- People are ridiculously friendly, not used to this since I grew up with southerners and they're absolute scum.
- Verona is the most beautiful city I've ever seen.
- Trains are decent.

Cons:
- Niggers
- Jeets
- Abduls
- High Taxes if one were to live here.

Is it worth going to Florence tomorrow? Is it worth moving to Verona? For context, I am white with blue eyes.

Homeless people around the world
I live in Portland Oregon. I recently took a trip to a couple countries in Europe and the homeless situation there is vastly different. I saw one or two “camps” but they were clean and neat and the dudes had a bunch of chairs arranged in a circle where they’d just smoke cigarettes and drink. As opposed to here there are screaming fentanyl psychos who carry around piles of trash. I’m asking, what’s the difference? Why do the homeless over there conduct themselves with more grace? Is it the drugs? Do euros lock them up in asylums or something?

2026 Eclipse - Spain vs. Iceland
Currently going back and forth between the two and hoping to make a decision next month.

Iceland - Pros
>Place I was planning on going to anyways
>Lots of reputable existing tour companies offering fairly reasonably priced excursions where they will drive to wherever the best weather is day of ($100-200 per person)
>Possibility to see auroras during the eclipse, odds are supposedly low but a literal once in a lifetime event if it does happen

Iceland - Cons
>Really really cloudy, odds of any location having clouds is 80%, but odds of all locations having clouds is 30-40%
>Tiny island so going to be super swamped with talk of road closures and skyrocketing prices

Spain - Pros
>Large country with many places to view so demand curve will be flatter which hopefully means lower risk of last minute cancellations and price gouging
>Great weather
>Can move around day of or in days leading up to it to account for weather thanks to comprehensive train network

Spain - Cons
>Better viewing spots are much cloudier
>Eclipse is basically at sunset so you need a specific viewing spot since the sun will be so low in the sky which is hard in such a mountainous country
>Spain is way more accessible and has better weather than Iceland so will hundreds of thousands if not millions more people
>Even the best parts of Spain have 30% cloud cover and trains/buses may be sold out if you need to find a new spot last minute

What are /trv/'s thoughts?

Iceland seems easier, simpler, and more relaxing with the highest reward if things go right but the highest chance of things going wrong. But with Spain I don't know if it's enough of a sure thing to justify the hassle and rush day of.

If I miss the 2026 eclipse because it's cloudy, then I'll consider going to Gibraltar in 2027. The 2027 eclipse will be partial for most of Spain.
There's also an eclipse in Spain in 2027. Does that change the calculus for anyone?

>Literally every woman will gladly have sex with you every night
Spain - Cons
>Most of the good places are paid to HATE tourists now

Sounds fucking rad, please tell me i'm wrong and shouldn't start planning such a trip (i give myself 5 years including getting a motorcycle license and learning to drive that thing first)?

Just flat wrong. Local girls? Maybe, can't speak for them. But Batumi is a tourist hot spot for the region. Turkish, Armenian, Iranian, Russian, Emirati women ... they're all there away from home to let loose and yeah, some of them want to fuck fit white boys.

The women there in Batumi don't touch foreign men unless you pay. Tbilisi is the only place a non-Russian could meet a woman without paying and you'd be wise to speak bad Russian.

Reverse Paris Syndrome
Has there ever been a place that you have visited that made you have a sort of "opposite Paris syndrome".

I visited Boston, MA last year for a wedding and It was the biggest culture shock as someone from bumfuck Yucaipa California. I still want to go back someday, while also visiting other parts of east coast while at it.

There are rats around openly in Toronto too, but that’s mostly around Dufferin and Queen because homeless people dump their scraps in the bushes so they become swarming with rats the size of pigeons.

The decline is over sensationalized. They just want cheap labor
Barcelona for me. I was there in September so the quieter tourist season helped but it was easy and worth while to escape the overly tourist areas. People were friendly, sights were great, city was clean, food was cheap, beer was cheap, felt safe. I will be back for sure

Any language learners here?

Ive learned conversational Central Thai and Khmer in 5 years traveling the region but always have to go back home every 6 months to make money. During that time my language skills tank despite having friends I talk to pretty much daily. I try to also only watch native content but admittedly their media sucks balls. Is this decline inevitable or does anyone have tips to mitigate this?

My next language, Burmese, is going to be even harder and I'm thinking about just teaching English so I can stay in the country longer and master this language through exposure again. Unfortunately there is a war going on, though Yangon should be safe enough for at least a few more years. What's teaching English like? I'm ok with shit pay I just need enough to pay for rent and street food.

Sorry for rambling, was up late last night and my brain is scrammbllllled. Time for work.

I didn't learn consistently for 10 years. I had a few weeks of free time after graduation in 2015 so I used it to learn the bare basics of Spanish on Duolingo. From then onwards, I picked up bits and pieces from interacting with people that came to my place of work and Spanish-speaking loc...

Real Traveler's map™ thread, sponsored by SPLORED.COM©
Post your travel maps in this thread. Pic related is the official /trv/ Real Traveler's map™, edition 4.0.5

Fill in the countries and subdivisions you have visited, talk about your map and ask others about their maps. You can use the map however you like, the colors are more like suggestions, you don't have to use them, and you don't have to use all of them. You can add or remove colors and change the map as much as you want in any way you want. Don't like this map? Upload a completely different one. Up to you. Despite what some might say, there's no "wrong" way to use the map, and new posters and less travelled people are welcome and encouraged to stay and post :) This map is a group effort by our board, and we can only improve it if people reach out to share suggestions or corrections.

This is the newest edition of the map, edition 4.0.5, updated for September 2025. Thanks to an Anon in the previous thread, it is now easier than ever to fill in the map. You can use the website splored.com to easily color in entire countries with a single click. At the time of making this thread, it uses the old 4.0.4 template, so you still need to update it to 4.0.5 with the simplified template, but hopefully Anon will update the website after I make this thread.

Topic for this thread: Should we have a Real Traveler's Discord? Just something I've been thinking about. I don't use Discord myself, so it's not important to me, but it could be nice to have a hangout for the regulars or a "backup" in case 4chan goes down again or somewhere to share subdivision news if there's no thread up. Just interested in hearing your opinions on this.

Have any of you come across lively art scenes?

Whenever I've come across art scenes (europe) it's either just depressed hipsters doing the same things as everywhere else and telling me that the scene died a decade or two ago or some tourist trap milking whatever they can from tourists with no artistry whatsoever in sight

I'm not sure what you mean by art scene but I tour appalachia and there's a lot of art stores, the best ones tend to be the cooperative ones that either make you work at the store manning the register to sell your art there, or charge you less money to sell your art if you do shifts - they tend to h...

I won the lottery and I'm going to move countries.
I recently won the jackpot in my state lottery. Fortunately it's not a dystopian state that forces your name to be public. I've won more money than I could ever dream of, but as a NEET I don't know what to do. As I cannot explain my immediate change in lifestyle, I've decided to assume the façade that I have got a job in another country and need to move within just weeks (my money will clear next week).

So my questions to you anons, are:
- Where should I move to?
Money is not an issue, I will invest it safely in the stock market and live off dividends. I could afford literally anywhere beyond tax havens like Monaco but I have no desire to be there anyway (I'm sure Nice is nicer)

- Do you have any suggestions for my alibi?
I've been a NEETGOD for years now and the massive gap in my CV will turn some heads if they hear I am moving internationally for work.

- Any places I should visit that you recommend in general?

Move to Thailand. Tell all of your friends and family that you won the lottery and you’re moving to Thailand to bang ladyboys, but say it ironically so they think you’re gaslighting them and you moved to a normal place to work a normal job.

Long story but I'm gonna be in vegas full-day from Oct 25 till Oct 30.
I'm 20 but have a fake ID. I don't know how strict they are but whatever, some casinos will let me in.
Things I wanna do:
>Gamble (max $250 lost)
>Go to a nice record store and buy Heaven or Las Vegas
>Rent a car and go to Grand Canyon and other roadside stuff (diners and shit)
>Walking around the strip, Bellagio and all of that shit
>Watch some live events (hopefully they don't bounce me with my fake ID)

If you have any ideas or advice, please help me out
