Does it count if its been remade? I'm less than 30 but I absolutely love Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana (remake of 1989 game). It topped Xenoblade X as my favorite rpg of all time just recently. so fun to play because its like arcade rpg with badass music.
If remakes dont count, I love rolling thunder even if i suck at it. The sound effects and kill animations are so funny that its worth replaying for that, rather than trying to beat it

I finally tried Horizon Zero Dawn: Forbidden West since fighting and taming robot dinos is cool. Wouldnt say I love it but its definitely been a lot of fun. The fighting with weakpoints, dozen mechanically very different weapons and surprisingly complex melee system is great. World is pretty and the story has been interesting. And no, Aloy doesnt look like fat gorilla like on that one image that gets reposted here constantly. Shame I put it off for so long due to passive /v/ vitriol poisoning me.

I think some of the best Soulslikes have been released in the last few years by devs other than From.

I actually played it before all the tony hox tale under shit came out. Right when Iwata died. On my hacked Wii with SNES9X Connected to a CRT tv over composite AV cables (I was 13, didn't know better), it looks and sounds weird to me seeing it on youtube with sharp pixels and crunchy treble sound. Still think it holds up. We all can coexist (except Heartbound fuck that shit).

Also, Goldeneye Wii controller mogs the SNES pad.

I don't really play games that released before I was born, mostly just play stuff from the early 2010s, but I did enjoy DMC3

I like the idea of this thread, anon.
I'm 36 years old, I got a SNES, a N64, a PS1, a PS2, a Wii and a PS3 when I was younger. I also played a shitload of emulated games from other consoles and portables when I was a kid. Eventually I moved on exclusively to PC gaming so I never got a PS4.

AAA gaming has been mostly a complete hellhole lately. Too much live service slop. Too much open world slop (The bane of my existence even two decades ago), but indie gaming is thriving.

Fell in love with picrel as soon as I played it for the first time on Wii U. It's crazy how much atmosphere this game has and the OST is one of my favorites. I did get stuck a lot, but you're rewarded for exploring everything, so I didn't mind that much.

I like Dragon Quest Builders 2 way too much. Though that was released in 2018. So I guess I like Palworld?

Yea the early access is bullshit, and 2025 hadn't impressed me. 2022-2024 was great though, I'll stand by Elden Ring being the best game ever made. The fact people had the audacity to badmouth FF Rebirth talks about how spoiled we are, it mogs FFX-13, and really most games.
Everyone knows Xenosaga was the best PS1 game but I played it 3 years ago, its unplayable by modern standards. Nostalgia carries hard. FF9 was amazing but it has a legitimate 15 second load time. No compliant against rebirth comes close to a random enemy encounter that takes 15 seconds to load. We are entitled haters.

I liked this so much more than Xcom 2 it's not even funny.

I really really need to check out the old game mods. I heard someone made a whole more dificult FF6, and theirs home made new Mario 64 and FF tactics games. Someone showed a fan made FF9 mod that upgraded the graphics that looked amazing and comfy. Maybe thats the peak of gaming, I do need to give it a try.

22, Streets of Rage 2 is one of my all-time favorite games, and the metal pipe in that game is one of my favorite vidya weapons. SOR1 is alright as well, but I really don't like the US version of SOR3. I really like the JP version of SOR3, though, as the abrasive soundtrack and grittier atmosphere compared to tbe prior games really grew on me after a while, while feeling more fair in a way the US version isn't. I do want to continue playing more genesis games though, think I'm gonna try to beat Gunstar Heroes next, Seven Force looks cool as hell to me.

Having recently replayed FF9 I do agree that as a kid I just did not even think about how slow the game actually was. The other JRPGs I was playing around that time was Legend of Legaia and Tales of Destiny & Eternia. ToD & ToE at least were a bit faster in gameplay than FF9 and LoL were. So some things have definitely improved over the years, but lucky for us that there is still a lot of stupid bullshit that plagues vidya in this modern era.

The shonen era from 2000-2015 was awful for me. When you are a 14 yrold raised on berserk, all that anime that released after when your older was just terrible. Attack on Titan was amazing, it was a return to form of anime not written for 9 yrolds. Imdb best rated shows are from that time, AoT, Vinland Saga, wonderland.

I've been playing a lot of Stronghold and Stronghold Crusader lately they've been an amazing experience. The comfy castle builder experience of the first game and the addicting skirmish missions of the second are great. Plus, the voice acting in all of the games are superb.

But i also recently played some old games like BG1 and 2 Again. Or Lands of Lore 2. Or Mega-man X games.
In general i played most of the popular games of gaming history.

If you have self control, World of Warships is one of my favourite games. Just don't buy premium ships. It doesn't feature "premium ammo" like World of Tanks does. Not really. It's mostly combat and SHOCKING TWISTS. The twists are completely nonsensical but they are fun, don't even pretend they're not. Only season 2 gets a "serious" political story and that one was boring as shit.
And most importantly, AoT combat is unique. It's not just two guys with sword or guns, it's something wacky that nobody else did.

The first 8 episodes its this dumb kids anime. Nothing happens but you start learning to love the characters.
Episode 9 is when the genius of the show occurs. One of the main characters gets poisoned. Its an old trope Ive seen a million times, never particularly cared when it happens. Watching it happen to a kid though, it hijacks that nurturing part of the brain. The old boring trope was one of the most intense insane things I've ever seen. Had it been yet another 30 yrold white dude I couldn't have cared less but it wasn't. From that part on its like an 11 in intensity as Im actually deeply caring about every obstacle.

DOOM (1993)

Truely remarkable and timeless game, Knee Deep in the Dead is flawless. Would be a 10/10 if the game didn't have invisible pinkies, Lost Souls had less health, and if the Spider Mastermind was a more compelling final fight (though understandable, since the alternative would have been the fucking Icon of Sin. Fuck that shit. Ruined DOOM II for me even more than the nosedive in level design).

Playing old community levels and the TNT expansions also opened my eyes to just how much shitty level design can ruin the fun. There's no worse feeling than pressing a button and not knowing what it does.
DOOM mapping should be the Turing Test for game design imo. If the best level you can make is Barrels O' Fun, go be a plumber.

Neat thread. As an Elder Zoomer (1999) I really loved Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri. I honestly don't understand how a remake/remaster hasn't been pushed out by Firaxis yet. Especially after the failure of the recent Civ game.

I've actually been getting into game dev recently so I can try and make my own 4x game that's somewhat inspired by it. Hopefully I'll have something presentable soon that I can shill around to see if there's any interest.

Deus Ex and Racing Lagoon, the earlier is really fun to fuck around in to find more secrets and alternative paths to complete levels and the later is very addictive, like a gacha before gachas were a thing. Farming for parts, upgrading them to the max to test out crazier upgrade set ups.

Just in time for me. It manages to feel legitimately Kafkaesque instead of wannabe surrealist like a lot of games of it’s sort while also being stylish. The gameplay is wonky, but the usage of on rails gameplay makes the scenes feel more composed and intentional.
I also played through the gunslinger girl ps2 game a few days ago. I’ve never seen the anime, but it had a mouse mod, so I thought I’d try it out. It’s real different from killer7, but it’s usage of on rails gameplay is reminiscent.

Everyone should read/watch/play things released before they were born, no matter how old you are. It's crazy that some people just seem to consume the newest thing when there are so many classics they haven't experienced. And by the same token, you should be open to new things and stop believing that nothing new is good.

No matter your age, if you only consume things marketed for "your generation", you're braindead.

Main idea behind dbd is that it's a 1v4 game where 4 survivors need to repair 5 generators to power an exit gate to escape. The killer tries to kill them by hitting them twice (once to injure, and another to down) and then putting them on a meathook until they're rescued or bleed out. The killer needs to do this 3 times to each survivor to win

The toxicity mainly comes from the fact that you can do so much shit to the other side to give them a miserable experience and to win you probably should. Survivors can group with friends and have 4 coordinated people doing whatever they can to extend the game or just fuck with the killer. "Bully squads" or whatever they're called usually run flashlights (which blind the killer and stops them from picking up survivors so they can't be hooked) and will teabag whenever they can while running the killer around for ages, teabagging him, flashlighting him whenever they can. Just doing shit to make the game last forever (since there's no timelimit)

There's a ton of perks in the game that people claim are toxic to run all the time. One perk called No One Escapes Death means that when all generators are powered the killer downs you in one hit and people usually run it as a last resort and there's no way of knowing it's in play until it hits someone

Killer can also do things to completely fuck survivors. Slugging is a term where the killer downs you and leaves you there instead of hooking (since if all 4 are on hooks he wins) so if there's 2 people left he'll slug one and find the other as it makes sense to. Even when people are on the hook the killer can just camp it out because it's a reliable kill AND if he gets off the hook he can just target that guy again because nothing really stops him

Gotta love me some Sega arcade racers and I feel like the Model 3 ones are the peak of that run and really representative of late 90s Sega.
