Going to Fiji and then hopping to some island countries, particularly want to go to Samoa. Flight less than $500 from Bangkok (where I am now). I've been to Vanuatu already, was amazing. Anyone got any experience? Can I get on a sailboat with no skills or vag? How to travel cheap between island nations?

How's Tokyo for hook-ups? I've been to Korea and I've gotten a decent amount of attention, would the same then apply in Japan? For context, I'm around B2 in Korean and A1, if I'm being generous, in Japanese and don't know much of the culture. Idk, I don't really know what Japanese women like as I do w/ Koreans.

What is it about traveling in the America-sphere (Canada, US, Mexico) that's so fucking soulless and depressing? Just looking at a piece of land in the USA depresses me. It has this dead, empty, cold vibe. There's something evil about it.

NYC is the *only* pocket in the Americas that feels like it has some semblence of soul. But you can also feel that like getting sucked out post covid too. (No, mexican shitholes including cdmx do NOT have any soul. They are poisoned with the america evil energy.)

I kept postponing the planning of my trip for months, mainly because I wasn’t sure where to go (and still kinda don’t). Now my days off work are coming up this next weekend, and I still don’t have anything planned.

Has anyone else been in the same boat? Would it be a good idea to still travel without much preparation, or should I just save it for another time?

Flights being way more expensive because of the dates (expected), and the schedule being shit, is what’s throwing me off initially.

Where would you travel for study?
I'm going back to university in my 30's to study privately, but there's not room for private study in my country or acceptance of adult students, so for a range of reasons I'd rather study abroad as an expat.

Student accommodation would avoid a lot of expat accommodation problems, at least until I was set up, and student visas tend to be long terms and far easier to get then foreign work visas. So its likely I would have foreign savings, a local job- but an adult income not some shitty bar job, and the AI boom/cancer is going to sink most of the expats working in teaching and IT, who locals often hate apparently.

I've been traveling for some years as a hobo. I've been all over europe and america. I'm homeless, poor, and ill. My condition gets slightly worse every year and causes me constant pain every day. There is no apparent cure or effective treatment for my issues. I'm profoundly sad and miserable

This isn't a pity or complaint post. Rather, I'd like to do something to feel alive during my last couple years. My one thing I'm good at is stealth camping, bushcraft, and traveling long distances on foot off-trail through difficult terrain. I am thinking about going on extreme trips and going to dangerous locations and filming it. I don't care where it is or how dangerous it is, I would rather die doing something cool that no one else has done rather than slowly fade away to illness and poverty.

I am currently writing down every idea I can think of. I want to do things that are
>Exciting, invigorating, make me feel something
>The more dangerous the better
>Fun to watch if I record it
>Not something that multiple people have already done (or at least not filmed)

Your best trip, and why Archived /trv/
Post your favorite trip you've taken, and explain why it was your favorite.
I'll start with my trip to Southern Germany last summer.

Munich
>Flew into Munich, took transit to a youth hostel which would be my main base camp
>Walk around, explore randomly
>Day trip to Vienna. Explore and hike randomly, take cable car up to super tall mountain, hike there
>Group tour to the Eagle's nest
>Free tour of downtown Munich from the hostel

Heidelberg
>Take train to Heidelberg, stay at another youth hostel
>Explore castle, walk around and explore and whatnot
>10 mile hike up the big hill, following the Neckar river to Neckarsteinach. Have lunch while looking at the river, then take a boat back to Heidelberg.
>Went to Heidelberg zoo
>Before taking the train back to Munich, get currywurst and ice cream, traverse the bridge

Munich again
>Go back to original youth hostel, cook in the kitchen
>Ride bike in the rain and explore randomly, go to a river to check it out
>Take transit to ride an alpine coaster
>Go to olympic park, explore and swim in the pool

Why this trip was so great:
>Cheap ($2000 something, flights included for ~2 weeks)
>I was alone and could do whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted
>Hot women at the hostels just came up and talked to me. This Polish girl in particular totally wanted it but I had/have a gf
>People were very friendly. I'd have nice chats with old folks on the train or at the bus stop. Young dudes my age next to me on the train were happy to talk as well. People smiled while I chatted with old folks on the train because they thought it was sweet
>First time traveling solo, and first time going to Europe as an adult
>I'm about half ethnically German, so Germany was always extremely cool and exotic to me (a burger)

Best day was probably at Heidelberg, doing the 10 mile hike and taking the boat back. Amazing day

Visiting Iran Archived /trv/
I am an American and am about to enter a field which highly relies on security clearances. However, I met a girl on-line who lives in Iran and I really like to visit her in the foreseeable future, so I can meet her family and see if they approve of me. I do have a few questions, though.

Would I be welcome there as an American? Will police (or the IRGC) bother me? Would I get detained or interrogated upon my return to America? Would doing this void my security clearance? What if I made this trip multiple times?

I've never traveled outside of my mexican state and got no money, but I speak english, got a PhD in literature and im a great storyteller.

I've noticed plenty of authors I admire, e.g. Jack London and Herman Melville (he wrote Moby Dick) ran away from home and traveled far and wide during their youth. Melville literally just approached a ship at the dock in NY, asked for work doing anything and they took him with them all the way to Patagonia and back, and quite a few other places. These travels inspired him to write a bunch of adventure stories, attain legendary writer status and make a living off that for over a decade.......... then he had to work at the post office just to make end meet, started drinking hard and beating his wife (probably out of frustration for not being young and able to go out on adventures anymore).

My points are, A, life's too short to work a job you hate, even if it seems to be the only way to obtain the money you need to travel the way you want to, to travel "safely", and B, if these authors simply said "Fuck it, im penniless but i want adventure regardless" and hitched a ride overseas with a bunch of strangers (and even worse, sailors) back when the world was allegedly more dangerous than it is today, why not you and me too?

Has any of you ever tried the green hands way of traveling (just approaching a ship going where you want to go and sail with them)? If so, how do you go about it? If not, why not? What's the worst that could happen? I imagine you can improvise something once youre where you want to be, request asylum, or even residency. How is this way of traveling cheap less safe or effective than hoboing and the like?

Is is worth it to fly first class to these destinations for relaxation, culture, and adventure?

Starting point Europe
(Country irrelevant because first class flights are not in every country)

Argentina + Chile
>Although if going so far might as well see more countries in south america

Australia + New Zealand + Antarctica
>also makes sense to see Oceania, possibly flying to SE Asia for a trip and then going from there

Japan
>Hokkaido or Okinawa depending on the season, but can make stops in Asia on the way

I have the funds easily for two people and could do a trip each year, but I'm not a fan of long distance flying so it's better if the trip is a one time thing or has shorter stops than a long haul

Is it worth it flying first class?

Ive never travelled outside of Europe and now I'm finding out that other countries collect your fingerprints? What the fuck. I don't want to go to Japan anymore because I'll have to go through china. Either of them having my prints is wrong

Just turned 18 not too long ago and have $4000 saved up. I want to move the fuck out of the US. I'm willing to learn a different language obviously and conform to a different culture. I just can't deal with this shithole of a country any longer. There's not a god damn thing for me here. What would /trv/ recommend an anon like me to go?

Honestly the only things I'd want to personally avoid is religious problems and high levels of crime. Being on 4chan of course I'm someone who leans a bit more towards interests out of Japan. But I'm not too picky about being in Japan specifically.

RARE PLACES Archived /trv/
What are the whackiest off the grid places you'd love to visit, and sometimes find yourself /trv/ing to on Google Maps?

Clipperton Island always makes me nervous. Seems like my idea of hell being on a flat beach in the middle of the Pacific surrounded by crabs. Looks like 1 wave would spell the end of you.

Apparently the atoll has closed off the entrance, and created a lagoon in the middle which manages to trap rainwater (salt water sinks to bottom?). People stranded on fishing boats have survived there for around a month or so.

The place is so small it's a cunt to find on a map.

France have claimed the waters around it, and apparently Apparently nearby there's underwater manganese mining potential worth billions. Think Trump spoke about it the other month.

Madrid for Halloween Archived /trv/
I'll be in Madrid for a full week during late October.

So far I'm thinking about doing day trips to Segovia, Avila, and Toledo. Anything else I should checkout? I'd like to see castles, churches, reconquesta stuff, etc. I think I'll stay in a Madrid neighborhood with easy train access so I can get around.

I don't reserve hotels ahead of time. I plan the first day for hotel shopping. I walk in, if the hotel seems good, I ask to see a room, check for cleanliness and noise levels. If it doesn't pass, I move on. I've had to look at 6 hotels in one day before finding a good room before. Having a good, clean, safe place to relax and sleep is the #1 most important thing in a trip.

Accommodation = destination Archived /trv/
This is the thread where the hotel IS the destination.
Any here in /trv/ who travels to a place solely for a specific hotel/accommodation, or hopping from one hotel to another? Whether it's a 5 star or a no-frills accommodation located in paradise, I want to know the hotels you went to & why that place is so special.
Guess I'll start. Last year I stayed at the wonderful explora Patagonia in Torres del Paine. The obvious downside is it's fucking expensive. But it was all worth it. Full board meals with great food. Open bar. You can pick any exploration you want to do each day. Jacuzzis with lagoon views. Woke up to picrel everyday. I'm an autist introvert loner but the staff made me feel like I belong there.
