>I played Resident Evil 2 and 3 remake, got bored of RE4 Remake
I hope you PIRATED that shit.
>now only use it to emulate PS1 and GC games
What's the problem with that?
The beauty of PC gaming is that you got access to 5 decades worth of vidya of many shapes and sizes.
Go play Silent hill 1-4 next, before Jewnami nukes them off the orbit with their upcoming de-make tsunami:

It's just another shitty SH Homocoming reskin,
another UE5 clusterfuck sloppa,
another over-shoulder TLOU wannabe,
one more Westoid woke trash orchestrated by the Sweet Baby Inc,
and a butchered DE-make of a beloved classic,
that neither the fans nor the OG devs wanted to happen.
Pirate the OG Team-Silent's SH1-4 while they're still easily available. Jewnami is quickly erasing them from the collective recollection:

Fuck no. It's a terrible game, and an awful de-make of a beloved classic. It's also literal UE5 slop + yank woke trash (Sweet baby inc).
Pirate the Team Silent 's OG SH trilogy, and only play those. In release order!
Pic related.

Yes: the actually GOOD GAMES.
The DEmake is fucking awful, and you should never start a series with a sequel. Nor a modern de-make, one that no one wanted to see at that.
>muh emulation!!!
Really now?
Also, SH2-4 got legit PC ports 20 years ago already. Just need fan-patches to run them smooth on modern operating systems:

>you don't need to play the first to enjoy the second.
Incorrect.
SH1 literally improves SH2's experience ten-fold, as it makes the numerous tedios parts more tolerable retroactively.
And the demake is not THE SH2, period.
It represents just about everything wrong with the modern industry.

>When are they going to optimize this piece of garbage?
Never. It's "good enough" for the AAA publishers, and consolepeasants are already used to 792p FSR'd to "4K", running at 25fps average.
The DEI-make is not worth your time. It's all around shit. Go play the Team-Silent's OG trilogy instead, in real 4K, 120fps if you want. Or keep it at authentic 480p 4:3, 30fps, if that's your cup of tea:

>Is it worth $250?
Fuck no.
And I say this as an oldass SH fanatic.
You could get a mint condition PS2 copy for 30 BUCKS before Corona.
Even if it was some "supa' rare retro classic (tm)", I would never pay over 60 bucks for an used copy of a very common, mainstream game, that has PC ports + easy emulation options.
This day and age?
Just pirate PC ports for free, and tell Konami and scalpers to go fuck themselves:

Still my favorite Silent Hill game after 25 long years, and the one I replay the most. King of survival horrors.
>I didn't know...
That's the point: you're not meant to "know" things, but explore, make mental notes, and replay the game with the power of hindsight on your side in order to unravel new content and mysteries.
The fact that you discovered the Kauffman "side quest" already puts you above most other ADHD zoom zooms, and even a good chunk of us oldfags.
Anyway, SH thread?

Depends on the game,
but typically they follow the OLDSCHOOL game design philosophies:
Normal is the way you start,
Hard (and up) are there for those looking for extra challenges on later playthroughs. This tends to confuse zoom zooms who are obviously used to the Casual era poop being kinda easy no matter what.
SH2 and 3 even have separated Action and Puzzle difficulties that let you spice things up to your liking.
I've personally beaten all four OG SH titles on just about all the difficulty settings. SH2 is piss easy no matter what, besides one or two potential show-stoppers you need to prepare to, where as SH3's "EXTRA" difficulty models get more and more broken as you beat the game.
The puzzles themselves were never an issue, not even 25 years ago without the interwebs. Sans shit like >>713967201 that were outside my local culture's scope.

>Am I a pussy if I play Silent Hill 2 (Remake) ?
Yes. The DEmake is fucking terrible trash.
Literal reskin of the SH Homocoming.
...or, if you are too young to understand what that means, it's essentially TLOU x RE4R.

>story heavy games like Silent Hill 2 might be better enjoyed at light combat.
True, but SH2 DEmake is a literal "Silent Souls" style hack and slash game. You are constantly fighting shit, you cannot avoid it.
In case of the originals, survival horror is all about the risk of fucking up and losing a lot of progress, so reasonable difficulty is recommended.

>is 4 essentially the final game in the franchise?
Yes it is.
>or did the original team make another game?
No. Kocknami disbanded Team-Silent right after SH4, back in 2005.
They then kept the SH's IP as a hostage and started giving it to any and all dev teams that promised to make a new game for free.
So it's essentially the same shit Jewnami pulled on Kojima Productions a decade later, expect we only had to suffer of one (1) sub-par cashgrab game afterwards (Survive).
The Jap mobsters are now trying to whitewash history and reboot both franchises, but the OG fans haven't forgotten the great #FuckKonami movement.
I always instruct people to grab the original SH1-4 for PC, while they're still easily available and in their "abandonware" state. Anyone hoping for an official "HD remaster" pack should look up what happened last time, back in 2010.

Yes. And anyone who has NOT played a single SH game before, NEEDS to start with the 1999 SH1. No buts.
It is unironically THE best SH game, and thus one of the greatest horror games ever made.
The modern-day DEmakes are all absolute shit.
They are broken, fugly, generic action games, that always cut shitton of content + ruin the mood, the style, and nowadays also writing.

But it quite literally will.
From the collective consciousness, the online searches, and the culture.
See: DOOM, Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 4.
Hell, the original SH trilogy itself has LITERALLY been abandonware the past 20 years. TWENTY YEARS.
You cannot buy SH1, 2 or 3 legally, brand new, from anywhere, for any modern system. The closest alternative are the used copies of the shitty, shitty Xbox360 and PS3 "HD Collection", played through the nu-consoles' shoddy backwards compatibility layer, but everyone and their mother know to avoid that shit at all cost.
On top of this, there's the ever present, ancient question looming at the backs of anyone who's been alive longer than iPhone:
Why the fuck are literal nobodies "remaking" old games, and not making BRAND NEW ONES ??
Yeah, the answer is simple: it's essentially a matter of copying someone else's homework, saving (You) a ton of work, while also providing easy marketing opportunity thanks to the pre-existing cultural heritage of the IP's namesake alone. Even if you had never played an SH game before, you have most likely at least heard of it.
Make a brand new game, with a totally different name? Yeah, you'll be always called nothing but a cheap knockoff.

>retard sillent hill had great combat and was miles better than RE melee combat.
>sillent
But you are correct!
However, BOTH of the statements are true:
SH actually WAS an upgrade from RE's combat, BUT fans also quickly realized the benefits and joys of avoiding combat. It was even later added into the sequels' instruction manuals as a legit hint from the devs.
This is however once again taking the conversation towards that annoying "muh combat!!!" zoomer trope that always plagues any and all horror game / remake discussion.
>good luck strafing in RE
I don't think I've ever strafed in any of the SH games, sans for the heck of it.
People are too fixated on that shit these days, and trying to dunk on the tank controls.
