A dumb argument, but I'll play devil's avocado: the Japanese are not good at writing compelling incest stories. Nemlei understands what makes incestuous romance in fiction so fucking good, and a large part of that is the fact that it *is* such a large societal taboo. One of the great sins of most of the anime/manga centered around incest that I've seen is the sheer volume of forced drama like introducing conflicting love interests, which is bullshit because you already have an insanely good premise for drama and conflict right out the gate. Mind you, western incest stories are not magically better by virtue of them being western, but it feels like most of the more compelling stories regarding incest have come from the west.

The prevalence of the phrase "toxic codependency" really does embody the gender dynamics of my fucking generation and it's hard to tell if it's a maladapted boomer-ism or if millennials conjured it from the propaganda of our time. This idea that two people in a romantic relationship depend on each other is somehow a negative quality in principle matches perfectly with the men being beaten dogs and women living completely unchained until the consequences of their lifestyles burn them to the ground.

Because it's fucking gross. It's the same logic transgenders use to try and indoctrinate vulnerable groups into their circle. People who live alternate lifestyles should *not* try to push it onto others or make others accept it, there needs to be a degree of self-awareness and a desire to maintain the function of society as a whole rather than pulling at threads to unravel it so that you're not "alternative" any longer. I think it should be perfectly acceptable for a brother and sister to be together, obviously that is not the case and society at large will not budge on this matter in my lifetime, so the most sane option is to live quietly and not push it in people's faces because it's insanely disrespectful to try and force people to accept you. More than that, I don't encourage other people to pursue such a lifestyle because it doesn't allow for individual circumstances, and what works for one person will ruin another person's life all because they got gaslit into living in an alternate dimension instead of reality.
