The industry has been shifting more and more to appealing to westerners and this shift only accelerated in the last 5 or so years. Most westerners are ironic weeaboo faggots that recoil at any and all female skin, if it's to the watching pleasure of normal AKA straight men, that is.
You won't find a single ironic weeaboo complaining about fanservice if the female character is a huge, brazen slut, or it's the male characters being sexualized.
