What if the soul is actually Kris?
And Kris'a body is being puppeted by Dess?
The game starts by saying you don't get to choose who you are in this world so it makes sense it would force you to be Kris.
In fact it does this already but it's really a bait and switch because when you aren't in Kris's it's actually Dess who is in control.
Something happened with Dess and Kris that caused Dess to lose her body and for Kris to lose his soul.
Except Kris's soul survived because he's a human and Dess's monster soul needs a host to live.
And now Dess, Kris, and Carol are all working together to get Dess a new body.
Unless you go the weird route, in which Kris is making Noelle get stronger for something. Maybe for her body to be able to host two souls.
It makes sense from a timeline perspective too, since Noelle and Kris were really close when they were young but Dess taking over Kris's body would separate them romantically.
Plus during that special scene on the weird route Dess would be forced to experience taking her sister's virginity with Kris and would absolutely hate that.
As to why Kris would do the stuff in the weird route: it's in the name. Kris is a weird guy and does weird things.
Like make his romantic interest get stronger so she can stand up to her mother and the roaring.
And Kris is also a horny teen and would put Dess in the corner so he can get some doe nookie.
