I've noticed everyone seems to call the starts of their favourite media the weakest parts. I think people just kinda forget that a lot of that setup was what hooked them, and they're only viewing it in retrospect from the heights the story was trying to build up to. Chapter 1 does a great job of introducing you the world of Deltarune, Dark Worlds, and the characters. I still feel my heart ache when I see Susie give up on beating down Lancer and saying "I don't wanna kill you man". It's a great moment that shows Susie finally letting her guard down. I live for story moments like that.

That's more than fair honestly, reading more on your thoughts on it I realise I have kind of the same feelings for Mother 3. That too has scenes I like (Flint's breakdown at the campfire, the dream sequence with the sunflowers, your first encounter with The Masked Man with the Franklin Badge) but I couldn't get invested in it like I did Earthbound. I'll admit I don't get to talk about Earthbound a lot, so any chance I do get to talk about it has me gush about all the parts that stuck with me, so I'm sorry if it came off like I was trying to tell you you're wrong for thinking that way about it.
