What's an acceptable blend in your guys experience for /out/ings? I'm looking at getting one of those L.L. Bean birdseye sweaters and it's 80 wool 20 Rayon. Will the rayon be detrimental at all? Anyone have experience?

Do you bushcraft when you're /out/?

General thread for freediving and/or spearfishing, since I don't see one mentioning either.

My personal questions:
I've been thinking about taking a certification course so I can learn to do these things correctly and safely. I'm probably happy just doing the diving, but spearfishing seems like an easy and practical extension. I only casually skindive and rod-and-reel fish at the moment. Does anyone have experience taking such a course?
I know I'll need my own gear early on, but each instructor I can find seems to have their own equipment shops, so I imagine they wouldn't be impartial about the quality of other gear on the market. I live on the Pacific coast of the US, so I see that a 7 mm open cell wetsuit is strongly recommended. What good/bad features should I look out for on wetsuits and other equipment? For non-competitive diving, carbon fiber fins are almost certainly not worth the price, right?

What's it like permanently living on a sail boat and sailing around the world? It seems to be the only way you can truly be free in the modern world. I'm not naive, there is obviously risks, but if you aren't an idiot and get sufficient experience beforehand are you most likely to be fine? Any other interesting/useful information is also appreciated.

Has anyone else felt that after spending most of your daily life, and daily routine in a city that once you get out into nature, theres a type of "disconnect"?

I can't really explain it, but I felt a type of anxiety it wasnt real bad but it was a feeling of alertness and of a sort of survival instinct kicking in that I completely forget about when i am in the city.

I also feel really powerless in a way since I had this thought of "well this is life and earth in its truest and rawest form" like I know that if I got dropped off in the middle of those woods my life would be miserable since I wouldnt have clue what to do. Much less would in any capacity would I be capable of surviving (and thrive) long term. I wouldn't even know how to dress myself. or even be competent to hunt anything probably until after a couple of weeks....

is this some sort of sign that I am living life the "wrong" way by living in a city? that city living is a sort of parasidic lazy way to live?

I need a water bottle that

1. Won't poison me with microplastics or metal flakes
2. Is easy to clean without a dishwasher
3. Holds at least a liter

Looking for suggestions for lightweight, high energy/protein/carbs food to take on long hike wild camping.
I can cook things in mess tins but ideally if so needs to be fast cooked from a small fire in mess tins.

So far I have beef jerky and processed rice or cous cous packets of dehydrated meals with vegetables and spices in them. Cous cous can be hydrated in 5 mins with boiling water. Rice 15-25 mins.

Looking for stuff I can carry a bulk of but are easy on pack weight while also high in energy and nutrition.

I'm from Texas, born and raised, and I think you're all batshit insane for going out into subzero temperatures to go camping. What's the fucking point? How is that enjoyable? Follow the birds and go south for the winter, there's plenty more nature /out/ there you haven't seen yet, and it's not covered in a foot of snow so you can actually enjoy it. Moving to Madison soon, so how would you guys rate Wisconsin? I did quite a bit of fishing there growing up, which was fantastic, but what about everything else? Hiking, homesteading, skiing, etc. I've heard are all pretty good there.
