The panels yes, the charging station no. Those big fuckers are excellent. You can even hook them up to your car so that they charge while you drive.

Some of them will charge a mobile phone 60+ times on 1 charge, that's the mid-priced one right now.

Outdoor classes, school, NOLS, courses
Hello /out/!

Have any of you taken any outdoor courses of any discipline? I would be really interested in taking something that would be beneficial to outings like they experience on Alone, purely out of interest and curiosity. I'm a 30+ burger so I feel like I'm kinda too old for NOLS but any experiences you guys have would be interesting.

Ran into a guy that did this, he had a lot of great things to say about it

what strange / spooky stuff have you seen?

once when i was in the desert, there was a telephone pole, on it looked exactly like a 10ft tall bird of prey, just eyeing me down
it was about a good 5min of walking, which felt like forever, just to see that it was a transformer that looked weird, none of the other poles had it either
sounds dumb, but it really did look exactly like a gigantic human sized hawk, and the "head" even seemed to follow you too, really interesting illusion, since it also hit all the primal parts of the brain that gone "you're about to be fucking eaten by a bird!!!!!!"
a year or two later, when i was gonna take a picture, it was gone, which adds a strange air to "it was right there, i tell you!"

The jews won. They are in control of the Pikes Peak batholith and the multi-trillion-dollar granite tunnel system — a highly symbolic 40 miles west of Denver, Colorado in the Front Range. But they are in control of much more than the end-time survival apparatus. They control not only the military and government of the United States of America but through the power of major corporations and the corruptibility of businessmen and government officials, fiat currency manipulation by the WiΩards of Fiat Currency at the Federal Reserve System, a small army of propagandists and "hackers" (this is a technically incorrect use of the term) who are fighting to maintain control of the Frankenstein monster they created called the Internet (in a war I fear they are going to lose), and even the Republican form of government they created which inevitably—and I would argue by design—fosters centralized control and assures only a handful of "elected" officials must be compromised to control an entire country, they control the entire Western world.

How do I become one of them rangers like Aragorn?
Reading The Lord of the Rings some of my favorite parts are the ones with Strider's show of skill.
I love how he is completely aware of his surroundings and is able to instantly read footprints and use herbs and quickly make himself and his companions unseen and escape danger. At times he seemed more in tune with nature than even Legolas.
I have seen quite a few threads on here of people being scared of the dark and I feel like if one had good old Strider's skill and knowledge he wouldn't be afraid no more.
Aragorn wouldn't be startled in the middle of the forest by some bear, he would know about that mountain lion following him for the last 2 miles. He wouldn t get poisoned by some mushroom or die of hunger because he knows what is good and what is bad to eat. Strider wouldn't get lost in the forest since he has been drawing a 3d map in his head this entire time.
How do I become more like Aragorn, obviously he has had 80 years of experience but what books would you recommend and things to do in the forest to become a little more like him

/out/ings with a pipe
Last thread >>2827097

This is a thread for enjoying a pipe while doing outdoor activities. If you ask why this belongs on /out/, you've never spent
an evening by the campfire with a pipe silently enjoying the nature around you, and you're missing out.

>how to get started
Purchase a corn cob pipe (or a cheap briar pipe) and a pouch of Half and Half or Captain Black tobacco from a smoke shop
or online. You will need a lighter or match, and something to tamp it with--a large nail works well if you don't have a pipe tool.
Fill the pipe with tobacco, pack it down halfway, top it off, pack it down to 3/4, top it off again, pack gently and enjoy. Smoke
slower than you think you need to, the tobacco tastes best when it is burning cool. Tamp and re-light as needed. If you still
have trouble, try different methods on YouTube until you find one that works for you.
>smoking a pipe will give you cancer
Originally the Surgeon General found that pipe and cigar smokers, following a careful study of the statistics (at a time when
most adults smoked, so they had a good sample size), had insignificant death rate increases. Nowadays, tobacco is being
legislated against while hard drugs are being legalized. Put two and two together. Tobacco is just another good thing under attack by the government.

>muh weed
Not the time or place. Start your own thread.

All tobacco users welcome.

As such I want to take a stove with me for a cosy time, reading and carving things inside a warm tent. I'm on a basic budget but these are what I'm thinking. I don't care to spend extra on titanium even though it is half the weight, I will just take more rest stops.

Which of these tents would you choose? Or which other? First tent (picrel) only fits1 person, stove inside main compartment - needs a heat mat

>Which argument has more merit?
Depends on how many bears there actually are. Are there too many ? percieved to be too many from too many human/bear conflicts? Are they losing habitat or gaining?

If you are zeroing a gun that is clean, it will shoot different fouled. Yes, there are people who bore punch after every shot while zeroing. Honestly, it’s mostly an artifact of crummy old barrels with a bit of corrosion damage, modern barrels that don’t have corrosion damage will shoot es...

When you shoot a 5 year old, you are removing an animal that is likely to live and reproduce for several more years. When you shoot a calf, you are removing an animal that would still otherwise be more likely than not to die before it reproduced. Growing up as an ungulate is hard. Shooting...

You’re gonna have to pick up tracking, man. You’re probably gonna want to go to a different location, but your first task should be identifying water sources and food sources. Due to the drought, they should be sorta scarce so deer will probably be more concentrated in those areas. From th...

Because they are tender and taste good, also because we had tags for calves specifically.
If I shot a bull, I'd be in jail.

Unfortunately, no, they are not. They're called satan's boletes because of the red color on the pore surface, but also because it's one of the boletes that will make you sick. They won't kill you or do any permanent damage, but they will cause gastric distress. I have read online that they...

*/in/doors for Outdoors*
My kids saw a screech owl on my property so I thought he might want to have a place to call /in/
Now I want to make houses for all my /out/door friends. Different birds, bats, friendly /out/door kitties, turtles?

That's a good chunk of my day job reholming creatures. Make some nice bat boxes. They really seem to go for them.

Nice work anon.

Closest I've got to that is buying one of those 'bee houses' but it didn't attract shit.
I made it out of a 1" x 10" x 8' cedar board.

How important do you think a survival knife is?
Do you think it is a rather not needed item thats need can be superseded by a usual every day knife?
It is easier to just snap logs for a fire than to hack them with a survival knife.
This is of course not including raw survival where you are needing bushcraft and hunting skills to actually survive. Just general non normie tier camp holiday woodland camping.

If you have infinite time, yes.
For practical purposes, no.
Really good steel if you don't use the knife as a prybar.
>>2844882
>Magnacut
Can you sharpen that on regular stones?
>>2817865
I carry this in the forest and no one has ever tried to mug me when I am wearing it. I don't think I would have survived without it.
>>2845393
Nah, the issue is the work I've used knives for.
No actually usable knives would hold up for that abuse over time, but tougher steels held longer.
For regular /out/ use, I've damaged a few, nothing horrible, but I've had some chipping on blades that are too brittle.

Ultralight hikers are the Cyclists of the Trails.
Ultralight hikers are the biggest joke on the mountain. They roll up bragging like they’re the elite of the outdoors because they shaved 200 grams off their kit at the cost of thousands of dollars, but really, they’re just trust-fund babies playing wilderness cosplay. Every sentence out of their mouth starts with “my base weight is…” as if anyone cares. They obsess over spreadsheets and gram counts like they’re planning a moon landing, but then forget the basics: no first aid kit, no proper knife, not even a damn multi-tool. They’re the ones asking to borrow your lighter, your tape, your stove, basically turning everyone else into their personal gear supplier while pretending they’re hardcore minimalists.

And let’s be real: these people don’t actually hike. They wander just far enough to snap a staged Instagram pic of their titanium spork and their $600 ultralight tarp pitched at a bad angle, then head back to town to sip craft beer and write a self-congratulatory blog post about how they’re “living simply.” They’re allergic to actual dirt, rain, or effort. The only thing ultralight about them is their personality.

The worst part? They’re always the ones Search and Rescue has to haul out because they thought a space blanket, two protein bars, and a selfie stick counted as survival gear. Meanwhile, the people with “heavy” packs are the ones who have to hand over their food, tent pegs, rope etc. Ultralight hikers aren’t minimalist pioneers they’re freeloading disasters waiting to happen, more concerned with clout than competence. Strip away the Instagram filters and the $500 shoes, and you’re left with what they really are: clueless posers cosplaying adventurers, desperate for likes while everyone else carries their dead weight.

A homeless tweaker, is this even a question? A human is always more dangerous on the trail than animals. Even a Grizzly won't fuck with you unless you get too close in majority of cases. Short of hiking up with polar bears most animals don't want to be near you and are fearful of you. Ther...
Biggest risk by far is injury. Simple injuries you'd just get a taxi to hospital over, or see a local doctor. A broken ankle.

Triangle of death is simple injury, poor coms/ no signal, can't rest in place.

So you often see this where day hikers are almost totally unprepared to rest in place for se...

The AT? A meth head or a crackhead. Or getting hit by a car.

The PCT? A surprise blizzard, AMS, heat illness, falling, bear attack, you name it.

Living in camper
>be me
>plan to buy camper to live in friends backyard
>midwest but i probably will not stay in it thru winter

Anything I should lookout for? Obviously i want a maintained roof and no prior leaks.
Im looking at 4-6000 campers right now and wondering if I might as well drop 8-12k
I already have an outdoor kitchen,
Maybe I will build a roof or porch for it.
Any advice or considerations on buying and also living in an older camper?
