Kingdom Death is a tabletop minature brand stared by Adam Poots and operated by himself and his Team that later spun off into a miniature based bored game funded by two very successful Kickstarter campaigns.

Do you prefer it when a game has critical failure rules, or none?

To be clear, I mean "a failure that, as a consequence of being such a low roll, also induces some other negative fallout, whether this is couched as the character's incompetence or some cosmic stroke of bad luck." I am not talking about automatic failures.

Some games have neither critical successes nor critical failures. Some games have critical successes, but no critical failures. For example, in the default rules of D&D 3.X, D&D 4e, D&D 5e, Path/Starfinder 1e, Draw Steel, and Fate Core/Accelerated/Condensed, no matter how low someone rolls, it will never be a critical failure. It might be an automatic failure in some cases, but even that will never induce some other negative fallout.

Path/Starfinder 2e is weird and inconsistent about this. For example, when using Deception (Lie), there are neither critical successes nor critical failures. When using Diplomacy (Make an Impression) or Diplomacy (Request), there are critical successes and critical failures, but when using Diplomacy (Gather Information), there are critical failures but no critical successes. Recall Knowledge rolls are awkward, because the GM has to roll them in secret; on a critical failure, the GM has to lie to the player and feed false information.

Chronicles of Darkness, a horror game, has semi-frequent critical successes, but rare critical failures. A critical failure happens only in two cases. One, the character's roll is so heavily penalized that they are down to a "chance die," with a 10% chance of critical failure, an 80% chance of regular failure, and a 10% chance of regular success. Two, the character earns a regular failure, but the player willingly degrades it to a critical failure, gaining XP as compensation.

When you've created a character that was hypothetically meant to slot into a game that never came to be, how long should you keep the sheet around before you throw away the hours of work you put into designing the character and declare you'll never play it?

I would say after three weeks. Your "character" means absolutely nothing to GMs and it is obnoxious to regale them with a character that has existed for longer in your head than it has in theirs. Give up.

EXPEDITION is a ~1880s era, Jules Verne-inspired retro-futurist, underground blood soaked adventurescape.
It is a Skirmish wargame. Two players with their own expeditions, on a hexgrid map, explore & fight each other for victory and profit.

I want to make an imperfect primarch, a prototype that the emperor was so digusted with he exile him and his gene sons in the early imperium.

The main feature of his primach would be almost identical appearance to the emperor but failure would be all over his body, half of his body would be young while the other half is withered away with extreme age.

I'm thinking, they would either share this gift or either be young or extremely old, regression a space marine begins to get extremely old over a period as organs fail from the ravages of old age, some never get this fault leading to youthful examples while others suffer regression as they are argument.

I want to say their background is they exited the warp, after being exile and crash landed on a planet with admech, imperial army elements and gene sons and this primach littering the planet of this now abandon planet with humans, space marines and their primach in the 10,000 years since then. when rediscovered they were intergarted into the greater imperium, the forges the admech elements had build and the space marine and the miltian human population that has muitplied since the crash landing.

Anyway. That's all i have.

Why are Imperium fans like this?

It's supposedly going to be dropping here soon (it was supposed to drop this summer, but apparently they needed more time to cook). I went to their Twitter page, and it only has 120 followers, so I'm feeling a little nervous. Worst case scenario, I can pinch off lore that they've promised to include if they completely butcher the actual game mechanics and shoehorn things into a better system if I have to. I hope I don't.

Anyone familiar with Skydawn games, or are they a "literally who" of the TTG scene?

We had a thread earlier discussing how Delta Green would do in the universe of WoD and it made me curious; how would the Ordo Veritatis do if they were the ones transported and tasked with eliminating all Vampires? Assuming that they have all their government contacts and resources without needing to fight every other threat in the WoD, could they actually wipe out every vampire?
