Soarin Across America Edition

>Last Thread: >>2830791

>What is this thread? Why are there two generals?
/rcg/ was initially created as a way for the roller coaster enthusiasts on here to discuss all things roller coasters and theme parks. While roller coasters are the main focus of these threads (and the title of the general) there is also discussion on other theme parks, their rides, as well as the parks themselves and trip planning too. That's where /tpg/ comes in.
>Can I talk about Disney/Universal parks in this thread?
Absolutely! Disney/Universal discussion of all sorts including rides/resorts/dining/trip planning is OK.

Idk how to travel /trv/
It seems fun but what do you actually do?
>dude just like go there and do stuff
Give me at least one specific thing because all advice I see is just this generic trope
I don't think I care about architecture, museums, or talking to random people. Eating out alone seems pretty lame. If I went with someone, I feel like that would be at least worth it
I feel like I would like travel if I got dragged to do it but I'm not sure it really makes sense to me unless there is a sense of purpose which I feel like doesn't exist anymore since I can just use the internet

Real Traveler's map™ thread, sponsored by SPLORED.COM© /trv/
Post your travel maps in this thread. Pic related is the official /trv/ Real Traveler's map™, edition 4.0.5

Fill in the countries and subdivisions you have visited, talk about your map and ask others about their maps. You can use the map however you like, the colors are more like suggestions, you don't have to use them, and you don't have to use all of them. You can add or remove colors and change the map as much as you want in any way you want. Don't like this map? Upload a completely different one. Up to you. Despite what some might say, there's no "wrong" way to use the map, and new posters and less travelled people are welcome and encouraged to stay and post :) This map is a group effort by our board, and we can only improve it if people reach out to share suggestions or corrections.

This is the newest edition of the map, edition 4.0.5, updated for September 2025. Thanks to an Anon in the previous thread, it is now easier than ever to fill in the map. You can use the website splored.com to easily color in entire countries with a single click. At the time of making this thread, it uses the old 4.0.4 template, so you still need to update it to 4.0.5 with the simplified template, but hopefully Anon will update the website after I make this thread.

Topic for this thread: Should we have a Real Traveler's Discord? Just something I've been thinking about. I don't use Discord myself, so it's not important to me, but it could be nice to have a hangout for the regulars or a "backup" in case 4chan goes down again or somewhere to share subdivision news if there's no thread up. Just interested in hearing your opinions on this.

Hustling is endless. From restaurants to taxi drivers, almost everyone wants some lira from you and the moment you spoke English, you’re liable to tourist tax. You’ll also get carpet sellers, menu without prices, typical scammy things that you’d experience in India (and maybe morroco and egypt too - but I have not been). Supermarkets became my sanctuary as they are the places which consistently have clear price tags and the prices are the same for everyone.

Admission tickets to main sights like Hagia Sophia, Topkapi, and many museums have two-tier pricing (which is fine) but the scale is rather extreme. And for the money you paid for, you are getting the barebone experience - no free brochure, some doesnt have English translations, some doesnt allow taking photos. I just have the feeling of being ripped off.

Smoking is absolutely everywhere. It makes up the Turkish air basically. No smoking sign is decorative except in public transportation settings.

Is there something in the water in Sinai? /trv/
I don't know where to ask this, here's the deal:

Since I reproduced I'm taking my family to safe resorts. We've been twice to Sinai - once in Taba and once in Sharm El Sheikh. Both times ended up with us puking and shitting our guts out after a week. Something like that never happened anywhere else in Egypt or in rest of the world (East Africa, Caribbeans, South America, SEA etc.) and we exclusively eat hotel food and drink bottled water.

Was that just a bad lucks? Anyone knows something about some particular virus or bacteria in Sinai?

Nothing beats Italy when it comes to architectural beauty and climate does it? It's like the place is sacred or something.
I mean there are places like Switzerland that look picturesque and wonderful, and places like Vienna where everything is so clean and the architecture is grand but it doesn't feel special like it feels with Italy.
The only thing that Italy suffers from I think it doesn't have as much natural beauty and variety like other places.

I wish Rome never fell.

2026 Eclipse - Spain vs. Iceland /trv/
Currently going back and forth between the two and hoping to make a decision next month.

Iceland - Pros
>Place I was planning on going to anyways
>Lots of reputable existing tour companies offering fairly reasonably priced excursions where they will drive to wherever the best weather is day of ($100-200 per person)
>Possibility to see auroras during the eclipse, odds are supposedly low but a literal once in a lifetime event if it does happen

Iceland - Cons
>Really really cloudy, odds of any location having clouds is 80%, but odds of all locations having clouds is 30-40%
>Tiny island so going to be super swamped with talk of road closures and skyrocketing prices

Spain - Pros
>Large country with many places to view so demand curve will be flatter which hopefully means lower risk of last minute cancellations and price gouging
>Great weather
>Can move around day of or in days leading up to it to account for weather thanks to comprehensive train network

Spain - Cons
>Better viewing spots are much cloudier
>Eclipse is basically at sunset so you need a specific viewing spot since the sun will be so low in the sky which is hard in such a mountainous country
>Spain is way more accessible and has better weather than Iceland so will hundreds of thousands if not millions more people
>Even the best parts of Spain have 30% cloud cover and trains/buses may be sold out if you need to find a new spot last minute

What are /trv/'s thoughts?

Iceland seems easier, simpler, and more relaxing with the highest reward if things go right but the highest chance of things going wrong. But with Spain I don't know if it's enough of a sure thing to justify the hassle and rush day of.

Indefinite Travel /trv/
Long story short, 24 years old and like many burgers, I can't fucking stand living in this shithole any longer. I can already hear the "lol USA is actually amazing" comments, but I'll do a brief explanation. Country is wonderful for nature. I have been to nearly all US states, and I do enjoy some smaller cities. NOLA, Savannah, small town midwest, and mountain west towns are great. This being said, US has zero high culture. Our Capitol is a fucking sad mockery of what any medium sized Euro city has to offer. I like the US, but living in it wagefagging is not for me. If you're rich or uninspired, great. Live in suburban sprawl and die at 70 having done nothing. As for me, I want out.
At this point, I'm going to go perma travel mode for the time being. I'm in school online and want to eventually become a Professor, but that's at least 6 years away. I can make at least 1K a month anywhere in the world, which is enough just about anywhere (except the US, another reason I hate this shithole). Anyone have any tips on this? I'm leaving in a month and a half. Starting in London, and going to slowly move across Europe and into Central Asia. Anyone here do super low budget long term? How do you deal with health emergencies? Any hidden gem medium sized cities in Asia that are overlooked?

Muslims beheaded Canadian mining company consultants in Mindanao who were helping torture and kill indigenous Lumads.

>Ridsdel was kidnapped by Abu Sayyaf militants in the Philippines on 21 September 2015, in a raid on Holiday Ocean View Samal Resort, on Samal Island in the southern Philippines.[4] After the gunmen disarmed the resort's security guards, they abducted four people from the resort, the Canadians John Ridsdel and Robert Hall, the resort's Norwegian marina manager Kjartan Sekkingstad, and a Filipino woman, Teresita Flor.[5]

>The kidnappers later issued demands for a hefty ransom to be paid for the release of the hostages, reportedly 300 million pesos (around $6.5 million) for each of the three foreigners seized. As the deadline lapsed on 25 April 2016, they apparently beheaded Ridsdel.[6] Ridsdel's head was found in a plastic bag in Jolo.[7] A headless body, possibly Ridsdel's, was later found by villagers by a creek bed near Talipao. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police launched an international murder investigation.[8]

The company he worked for was involved in torturing and killing indigenous Lumad people (Lumads are not Muslim btw)

>In 2015 TVI was mentioned along with several other mining companies as being the likely beneficiary of a series of government-funded murders of the indigenous Lumads who live in the Mindanao region of the Philippines, an area rich in mineral resources to which these companies would like better access.[3]

Have any of you come across lively art scenes?

Whenever I've come across art scenes (europe) it's either just depressed hipsters doing the same things as everywhere else and telling me that the scene died a decade or two ago or some tourist trap milking whatever they can from tourists with no artistry whatsoever in sight

Sketchiness and Safety /trv/
Discussing travel safety in less-than-pristine places is difficult because the technically correct answer for maximizing safety is always going to be

>just don't travel there

With that being said, we all have our own levels of what we consider acceptable risk tolerance for these sorts of things.

Where is your personal threshold at? What's the sketchiest place you've been, or would consider going to?

What kinds of dangers do you plan for, and what precautions do you take?

I want to visit here. Mainly Kazakhstan, but I'd like to eventually see all of them.
What do I need to know in order to prepare myself? I'm an American who's only traveled in first world, highly English-speaking western countries before.
Are these countries cheap? What are the must see places? Do I need a tour guide? Are the cities as lively as the western world? How strict Muslim are they? Is it possible to pick up chicks here?

US Virgin Islands /trv/
Hey, /trv/.

Would anyone like to share their experiences here? I'm going in late November and am especially excited to explore VI national park on St. John. My question is, how should I handle transportation on the island? Is it best to rent a car? A scooter? Just taxi everywhere? Or use some other form of transportation, like public transit?

I hear the roads are a bit crazy, but I want to explore freely if possible. Also, I'll be alone probably as this is a solo trip.

I'm also happy to take any other tips about the USVI and/or the Dominican Republic, where I'll be staying in Punta Cana for a few days as well. (Am I going to get stabbed?)

Thanks!

I'm split between staying in The Hague or Rotterdam, idk which one is more interesting desu.

Got 8 nights total!

Its history speaks for itself. Food is good. Lots to do nature wise. Huge city.

Why isn't it a premier tourist destination? I mean I sort of know why but there's other muslim countries that get lots of tourists

Also, whats worth seeing there besides obvious stuff like pyramids?

Anyone ever drive from the north to Florida? Looking to do this route from Toronto to Miami next spring to go to an event.

The last two years I've flown and the flight goes for $3-400CAD and the car rental is about $3-400 CAD for the week. Is it retarded to consider driving down instead? I've driven upto 16 hours in one straight shot before.

I stumbled upon this travel vlogger and I was watching her videos, which are generally joyful and upbeat, and I saw in the comments one person asked when she would come back to Kerala. Her response was "I don't think I'll ever visit any part of India again". That piqued my interest. Then I found this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QfzO-AuAhsM

I was saddened and deeply disturbed by her horrible experience traveling in India as part of a guided tour. As someone who has never been to India, I couldn't help but have a few questions:

1. There were some good Indians who made her feel safe. Yet there were dozens, hundreds who harassed her. Why the discrepancy? Who are these gangs of Indian men who just stand around the beach or on the streets doing nothing all day long until they find a foreign woman to harass? Shouldn't the government or police step in to drive them out or put them in cells?
2. Why do they want a photo with her? Do they want to jack off to it later? Brag to friends about a fictitious relationship with a white woman?
3. Has there been any incidents where a female tourist was actually gang raped (full-on assault not just groping) by Indians? How many of these incidents are reported and how many are not?
4. Apparently this isn't isolated to just white women, and not even humans. https://www.vice.com/en/article/india-gang-rape-monitor-lizard-animal-abuse/ I wonder if there is an undercurrent of male rage in India where men who have little to no prospects in life either financially or romantically find a sadistic pleasure in reclaiming a sense of power over the vulnerable and protected (given that the type of monitor lizard is a protected species, I'm guessing the choice of victim was purposeful). I'm not excusing them at all, and their actions are evil and unforgivable, I'm just trying to understand how systematically things can improve.
5. Are there any efforts being done either grassroots or governmentally to address this problem?
