Many westerns back in the 90s did not know that Sally wasn't an actual Sonic character but rather, a OC. There wasn't any information on how SoJ outright ignores non-Sonic Team creations or how SatAM is meant to be it's own, weird thing. For them, Sally is the " true Amy Rose" of Sonic.
This misinformation and SoJ trying to take back reign of the Sonic franchise during the very late 90s and throughout the 2000s starting with the first Sonic Adventure caused many westerns to either be outright pissed, upset, confused, or even upset.

This was the common opinion back in the day, which reached a boiling point with Unleashed since people STILL wanted Sally back and not all of these "shitty characters".
So that's what Sega did in the 2010s, which pretty much vaulted most of the main cast and planned to turn modern Sonic into "Legacy Sonic" with the upcoming release of Sonic Boom. But that ultimately failed thanks to the deal with Nintendo and Sonic's Team autism.

There's been a lot of Forces defenders lately, saying that the "game isn't bad at all and that 06 is worse since it nearly killed the franchise."
But is this even actually true or just pure misinformation brought over from the 2010s? From what we know, Unleashed was already in development when 06's development was getting finished up, and the game sold very well at the time(Even selling more than SA1 and SA2). So it didn't really kill anything besides arguably reception for the Sonic franchise. But even then, many people were already quite negative towards the Sonic franchise since SA1 if you research old forum posts. Not to mention, the game is received mostly positive in Japan to the point it was available to play on PSNow via PS4(Which of course, was Japanese exclusive).
So is it ultimately just westerns being westerns, or a case of the newer generation not understanding why Forces was disliked heavily at launch, thus thinking it's not a bad game at all?

I have no issue with this. It's honestly how I already feel about about most remakes that end up as "re-imaginings" anyway.
Also, a remake by the modern devs would just play worse in most areas. Sonic Team have yet to make a 3D game that controls as well as SA1/2. Even Frontiers and Shadow Gens don't manage to hit the same spot.

The pc version with a handful of mods is the only "remaster" I need. The funniest thing about this interview is that Sega is still remaking Heroes, so this is yet another instance of Iizuka saying shit that will be eventually contradicted later on down the line.
