Since JR has adjusted the prices for the pass, not really worth it anymore, unless you want to travel by train very extensively. You can plug in your itinerary in the links below and compare prices to the JR Pass.

With the increased price of the JR Pass, local train passes might be good deals now.

>What is this thread? Why are there two generals?
/rcg/ was initially created as a way for the roller coaster enthusiasts on here to discuss all things roller coasters and theme parks. While roller coasters are the main focus of these threads (and the title of the general) there is also discussion on other theme parks, their rides, as well as the parks themselves and trip planning too. That's where /tpg/ comes in.
>Can I talk about Disney/Universal parks in this thread?
Absolutely! Disney/Universal discussion of all sorts including rides/resorts/dining/trip planning is OK.

I stumbled upon this travel vlogger and I was watching her videos, which are generally joyful and upbeat, and I saw in the comments one person asked when she would come back to Kerala. Her response was "I don't think I'll ever visit any part of India again". That piqued my interest. Then I found this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QfzO-AuAhsM

I was saddened and deeply disturbed by her horrible experience traveling in India as part of a guided tour. As someone who has never been to India, I couldn't help but have a few questions:

1. There were some good Indians who made her feel safe. Yet there were dozens, hundreds who harassed her. Why the discrepancy? Who are these gangs of Indian men who just stand around the beach or on the streets doing nothing all day long until they find a foreign woman to harass? Shouldn't the government or police step in to drive them out or put them in cells?
2. Why do they want a photo with her? Do they want to jack off to it later? Brag to friends about a fictitious relationship with a white woman?
3. Has there been any incidents where a female tourist was actually gang raped (full-on assault not just groping) by Indians? How many of these incidents are reported and how many are not?
4. Apparently this isn't isolated to just white women, and not even humans. https://www.vice.com/en/article/india-gang-rape-monitor-lizard-animal-abuse/ I wonder if there is an undercurrent of male rage in India where men who have little to no prospects in life either financially or romantically find a sadistic pleasure in reclaiming a sense of power over the vulnerable and protected (given that the type of monitor lizard is a protected species, I'm guessing the choice of victim was purposeful). I'm not excusing them at all, and their actions are evil and unforgivable, I'm just trying to understand how systematically things can improve.
5. Are there any efforts being done either grassroots or governmentally to address this problem?

Hello anons.
I'm flying to Madagascar next week, for a month. Semi-work related, but will mostly backpack around. I'm landing in the capital, will visit Toamasina, Saint Mary's Island, loop around the north and go to Nosy Be.
Anyone been there? What to expect? How to prepare? What to see?
I speak fluent English, Spanish and my native slavic tongue. Will I be able to communicate with expats/some locals?
How dangerous is it in comparison to LatAm?

my mom loves travelling and i usually never want to go with her cause im either busy, relaxing or i just rather she save the money by travelling alone so that we can buy better food or nicer things in general. we are both argentinean and she is planning a trip to japan, which i am actually interested for, but i feel like a cringy weeb for being excited. Do you guys know any spots with cool animal stuff but no animal abuse? or an area with good seafood restaurants that are also cheap? im a big foodie too. I'm trying to learn the language so that i have a better time, but japanese people dont have an opinion on argentineans right?

When exactly Indians started behaving like sexually frustrated retards? /trv/
In early 2000s (2000-2005) I had two female friends who were solo traveling to India quite often (one usually through Iran and Pakistan and then to the south, other one more closely to Nepal and Bangladesh). They never mentioned how they were groped by packs of Indian males - if anything they both viewed them as harmless halfwits. When they were taking their boyfriends to India, it was to show them this silly, exotic country, not as mean for protection.

What happened to Indian men in these 2 decades? Easy access to pornography through the internet? Why males of other shitholes around the world don't have such rep?

Magna, Utah.
There’s something about this place that has always perplexed me. On one hand it is everything people accuse West Valley City of being. Sure the accusations West Valley faces definitely check out (for crying out loud two or so teens got shot and killed in a Halloween party last week) but Magna takes it to a new level. I remember hearing about a haunting tale about a boy who got shot in the forehead in what many suspected to be a gang related incident. The mother, in her despair, tried to end her own life by running into traffic. God, this makes me wonder what sorts of horrors unfold here on an any ordinary night.
And yet whenever I visit I feel as if everything has clicked back into their rightful place. Anemoia washes over me. I can’t shake the feeling that I, at some point, was supposed to move here and have a full life with a group of family and friends I would find all on my very own right here in this broken town. Maybe I did in some alternate universe, that guy may be cool as shit

I'm taking a week off from work next week. I. need to get away from it all. Something beautiful and scenic. No budget, I'm going to treat myself for once. Only requirement is must be in the US and can't be in the middle of nowhere i.e. somewhere beautiful that has a city center I can stay around and nearby outdoors attractions (maybe within an hour at most). Open to any idea though. The goal is to re-juice myself a little even if it just means hanging in a new city and going to coffee shops to chill.

Give me some ideas /trv/, feeling really up tight and just need to disappear for a bit.

When I was younger I was super jealous of my friends who got to go to Disneyland every year. When I brought it up to my parents they'd laugh and say it was a waste of money. Now that I'm an adult and have disposable income I'd be lying if I said I didn't want to go for a few days to see what I missed. Can someone give me a non middle aged woman with disney brain worms perspective on what it'd be like for someone with no children? Is it true that people are paying the price of a nice australian or european vacation to wait in lines all day and buy $30 burgers? I like smaller amusement parks (think myrtle beach) but have never been to anything larger.

Are you scared of things like this happened to you? /trv/
Is there something more scary than nightclub fire? Imagine yourself solo-travelling, just being in wrong place in wrong time, then next minute you are awfully burned laying suffering on the street, dying very painful and very slow death, thousands of kilometers from family or anyone who speaks your language, totally dependent on awful healthcare of shithole country you are in. It's totally random, no fault of your own, it still happens from time to time and hundreds of people can be injured (great pain) in one such fire.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colectiv_nightclub_fire
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Croma%C3%B1%C3%B3n_nightclub_fire - almost 1500 innocent people injured and in great suffering...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ko%C4%8Dani_nightclub_fire - 2025, Macedonia is well known cheap solo-traveller destination...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santika_Club_fire - Bangkok NYE nightclub fire - scary especially for me , because i spend last year in BKK 4-floors nightclub with people tightly pressed in corridors - roof exit blocked etc.
How close i was from potential tragedy? How close you were from such tragedy, what do you think?

Is there something in the water in Sinai? /trv/
I don't know where to ask this, here's the deal:

Since I reproduced I'm taking my family to safe resorts. We've been twice to Sinai - once in Taba and once in Sharm El Sheikh. Both times ended up with us puking and shitting our guts out after a week. Something like that never happened anywhere else in Egypt or in rest of the world (East Africa, Caribbeans, South America, SEA etc.) and we exclusively eat hotel food and drink bottled water.

Was that just a bad lucks? Anyone knows something about some particular virus or bacteria in Sinai?

Hustling is endless. From restaurants to taxi drivers, almost everyone wants some lira from you and the moment you spoke English, you’re liable to tourist tax. You’ll also get carpet sellers, menu without prices, typical scammy things that you’d experience in India (and maybe morroco and egypt too - but I have not been). Supermarkets became my sanctuary as they are the places which consistently have clear price tags and the prices are the same for everyone.

Admission tickets to main sights like Hagia Sophia, Topkapi, and many museums have two-tier pricing (which is fine) but the scale is rather extreme. And for the money you paid for, you are getting the barebone experience - no free brochure, some doesnt have English translations, some doesnt allow taking photos. I just have the feeling of being ripped off.

Smoking is absolutely everywhere. It makes up the Turkish air basically. No smoking sign is decorative except in public transportation settings.

Day 2: visit Jerash & Jordan museum, anything else?
Day 3: drive along Dead Sea route, lunch somewhere along the way. Stops at Madaba, Mt. Nebo, Kerak? Arrive in Aqaba late in the evening.
Day 4 to 6: chill and light activities in/around Aqaba luxury hotel
Day 7: drive to and visit Wadi Rum, spend the night there
Day 8: drive to and visit Petra (evening)
Day 9: continue to visit Petra (morning), chill evening and go to bed early
Day 10: wake up early, drive to airport

Which city / country did you dislike the most and why? For me it was Osaka. Super dirty for a Japanese city, terrible public transport or terrible to find your way around, not much to do, the most homeless and dirt I have ever seen in all of Japan. Super disappointing. That a lot of signs are all in Japanese (also for transport shit) does not help especially when there is an Expo going on for many international tourists.

Übernachtungssteuer (overnight stay tax) /trv/
Any of you fucking Germs want to tell me which Sauerkraut smelling, Weisswurst-Brezel & Hendl eating, Krustenbraten-Semmel munching, Quarkbällchen swallowing, Topfenkuchen slurping, Jagdpfandl belching fat white deceptive nigger came up with this garbage? I already payed in advance on booking.com and it stated tax was included in the price. Even after payment it says I neednt pay anything at check in. The hotel writes me and says they will add 15% of my price as Übernachtungssteuer.

Egypt /trv/
Its history speaks for itself. Food is good. Lots to do nature wise. Huge city.

Why isn't it a premier tourist destination? I mean I sort of know why but there's other muslim countries that get lots of tourists

Also, whats worth seeing there besides obvious stuff like pyramids?

Quitting job to travel /trv/
Anyone ever quit their job to travel for an extended period of time? Should I? Or is it too late for me at 26?
My current job is bullshit, low paying, idk what my future is, and I kinda just wanna die. I do get PTO, but it's only enough for like, 2 week long trips a year. It's just not enough time to see all the places I want to. I have massive FOMO and am jealous of all the 20 year olds who traveled the whole world in between college semesters. I want to catch up, but I fear it'll be hard to recover if I do now.
What are your thoughts on quitting a job to travel? Also what do you think the budget would be for like, 4-6 months of full time travel be? I have 55K USD in savings

>Anon, I'm so happy you made a reservation with us, paid in advance and flew all this way here, arrived early morning with your heavy baggage hoping you can see the city... but look at the time nigger! Check in is at 15:00h!
Why isnt there a hotel that has check in at reasonable times like say 08:00h or even 10:00h? Literally wasting all sunlight of the day waiting for my room.. and no I'm not dropping my bags with people I just met.

Tips for Amerimutt living in Italy? /trv/
Fit 27-year-old here. Great great grandparents were from Naples so I know that makes me about as Italian as Pizza Hut in your eyes, but I at least don't stand out in a crowd visually.

Only time I've ever been in Europe before was a week in London. I'm going to live in Cefalu for five months, which I know is rather tourist/expat territory, but I plan on lots of daytrips around Sicily and southern Italy.

I've been trying to learn Florentine Italian for the past year so I have a basic level of speaking, though listening can be hard for me, especially with dialect changes.

What should an American do to both respect and get the most out of your country? I know not to call myself "Italian" or run my mouth about politics. Which areas of people are pretty welcoming there? How do women feel about American dudes? What should I see that's not on the typical sightseeing list? What should I wear? Do I need to buy/rent a vehicle?

Let me know how I can not be an asshole.

Indefinite Travel /trv/
Long story short, 24 years old and like many burgers, I can't fucking stand living in this shithole any longer. I can already hear the "lol USA is actually amazing" comments, but I'll do a brief explanation. Country is wonderful for nature. I have been to nearly all US states, and I do enjoy some smaller cities. NOLA, Savannah, small town midwest, and mountain west towns are great. This being said, US has zero high culture. Our Capitol is a fucking sad mockery of what any medium sized Euro city has to offer. I like the US, but living in it wagefagging is not for me. If you're rich or uninspired, great. Live in suburban sprawl and die at 70 having done nothing. As for me, I want out.
At this point, I'm going to go perma travel mode for the time being. I'm in school online and want to eventually become a Professor, but that's at least 6 years away. I can make at least 1K a month anywhere in the world, which is enough just about anywhere (except the US, another reason I hate this shithole). Anyone have any tips on this? I'm leaving in a month and a half. Starting in London, and going to slowly move across Europe and into Central Asia. Anyone here do super low budget long term? How do you deal with health emergencies? Any hidden gem medium sized cities in Asia that are overlooked?

Have any of you come across lively art scenes?

Whenever I've come across art scenes (europe) it's either just depressed hipsters doing the same things as everywhere else and telling me that the scene died a decade or two ago or some tourist trap milking whatever they can from tourists with no artistry whatsoever in sight
