the high rolling potential must be insane, imagine getting gold skills from cards you're not running

Because it's adapting two sides of Creek. The game is focusing on the maternal nurturing side. The Super Creek who was known to be gentle, mild and who claimed Yutaka Take and helped him become Japan's Premier Jockey. CinGray is adapting the fan reaction to Super Creek kicking Oguri's ass, the countless people who boo'd the shit out of them and sent hate letters. The people who considered Super Creek a heel for nothing more than beating their favourite. Yutaka even held a grudge over that for quite a while because his beloved honse was being misjudged.

Good question. TM Opera O seemed to be 'weakening' around that time. Not long prior, he suffered his first ever loss to Meisho Doto (Takarazuka Kinen 2001) after beating them clean countless times before. I think he might've burned through all his talent during his legendary win-streak and what came after was a shadow of the legend. After all, he managed to lose to Jungle Pocket (Japan Cup 2001)after that, then came in fifth in the Arima Kinen (2001). The Legend of the Overlord had come to an end.

It doesn't actually have everything I'll tend to post (Their Rice Shower section is a little limited imo and lacks important quotes by Matoba that give context to the irl happenstance), but it's still a very good resource. There's also a user in the leddit episode reaction threads who tends to give very good break-down's on stuff that the trivia doc doesn't go into. Never the less, it's a nice entry point.

Meisho Doto protagonist anime about TM Opera's Year of Dominance would be nice. We've only seen directly before it and directly at it's end in the other adaptions. Plus Doto's desire to over-come Opera (only achieving it at the end) is very heart-warming.
