Things are different. Things did change. The problem is they took the wrong lessons.

Bozja was fine, its only issue being an unsatisfactory story ending and the areas being ugly. But for some reason instead of just giving 3 alliance raids again they pulled another even less accessible Baldesion's Arsenal. After getting an entire expansion without those extras.

No one except a very small devoted following, especially on JP, likes Deep Dungeons, but they keep making them while Variant/Criterion, which do get engagement, keep getting delayed or cut.

Chaotic Alliance raids are another piece of content that gets no engagement from the vast majority of the playerbase.

And on top of this situation where content is being put out that no one plays, the frequency of cotnent updates is at an all time low, lower than it was during fucking Covid. We used to have 112 day patches and 2 year expansions.

I don't care about share numbers anon. If the game is stagnant the game is stagnant. They sell some modernfag outfit on mogstation and make a bunch of money for shareholders, but they don't reinvest anything in the actual game.
We still have Covid era patch lengths.

The most saddening part is that WoW is pulling itself up again after FFXIV hit it hard in the past, competition breeds excellence. But there's zero indication that Square Enix will make an attempt to do the same, they will just keep the same formulaic updates over a slower and slower cadence, with no fundamental necessary overhauls, until enough people lose interest for them to just put it into maintenance mode.
