Begin with this premise and notion:
What is a nation?
How are nations formed?
What was the "United States of America" before its fight for independence? Is a nation created on paper or through war? Language, Religion, beliefs, values, culture--all of it plays a part.
Before 1776, what was your America? What history was there? America is a toddler in comparison to Ukraine, the Kyivan Rus, without even going back to the Eastern Slavic Tribes and rule of Rurikids.
Ukraine has its own langauge, its food, shared ancient history, its culture, values (more European than pro-Russia), among other things.
The fact is, ALL 3 come from the same origin (Belarus, Russia, Ukraine), yet Belarus has its own border and Ukraine cannot? Belarus is vassal state for Russia, and Ukraine is denying that fate. Are they not allowed?
What about the simple, international law, and fact that Russia AGREED to the 1991 border when Ukraine became a sovereign nation? What about Putin in 2002/2004 stated that Ukraine is "free to choose its alliance/fate", and then changing his tune in 2008 to weave the fake NATO narrative?
But lets even go more recent, what is a nation-defining moment, then what happened on February 24 2022? Kharkiv, MY CITY, which was NEVER anit-Russian (Russian is my first language due to Soviet history), became more patriotic and our conviction and difference became soldified in DEFINANCE to an invasion.
Russia, like yourself, literally expected to be welcomes with open arms. After all, why not, right? Why wouldn't Kharkiv, a Russian speaking city so close to the border, not welcome Russia as their own?
The facts are against you. History is against you. I lived in both Ukraine and Russia, I am half-half (parents are soviet, Ukie dad, Russian mom), and I speak both languages. I know the history. I studied the voting results and patterns from independence, the Orange Revolution 2004, the Euromaidan and revolution of 2013/14, Crimea 2014, and to present day.
