Not true, early 1gs had cast cranks which 93 onwards had Forged cranks. 4 bolt mains vs the initial 2 bolt.
There are inherit pros and cons for the 5spd vs 6spd and it's drive train components.
5 speeds have stronger bell housings, however the transfer assembly is cast aluminum. 6 speeds have steel transfer assemblies however their 2nd gear tends to be be finicky without bellhouse brace tacked in it.
Ideal model in 1gs is a 1993 twin turbo with a 5 speed and then invest in a billet transfer assembly if you want to remedy the Achilles heel of the car.
