Wilds Greatsword plays the game more than any other weapon in franchise history. Unfortunately, that game is Milds.

No it isn't. What's supposed to be great about MH over Souls. Souls is MH but every enemy is actually somewhat threatening. The multi-stage movelist? Wow too bad I wouldn't trade it for a second over an aggressive boss design not designed around a fuckton of guardframes/offset for every single weapon and not having PVP. I guess you like more MH, but it certainly isn't that deep

wilds has hollowed out, removed or trivialized essentially every facet of the series' defining gameplay loop and identity in favor of half hearted implementations of modern AAA design trends, and its medium-long term failure will likely convince Capcom to shy away from this type of design in future titles if it impacts their bottom line and overall reputation enough

The game's difficulty is at an all-time low because of new mechanics. Monster Hunter wasn't known to be easy. Especially when you look at other Monster Hunter titles, this game's difficulty feels lacking. Most of the monster attacks inflict very low damage and don't stagger the hunter. This allows players to just face-tank the living hell out of monsters without any real consequence. As a result, farming monsters for better gear feels optional; dying feels like a choice. In addition, most of the new monsters added have attacks that don't cover or have a lot of range (or AOE), making it more unlikely to get hit. This imposes a problem with certain weapon types that actually want to be hit (greatsword/longsword/switch-axe/charge-blade) in order to stay efficient. In certain hunts I stood still but was missed regardless.

Some of these difficulty complaints go hand in hand with certain weapons changes that were made. While Gunlance is literally a "blast" to play and is well designed (you can dish out big damage at the cost of leaving yourself open), longsword and Sword & Shield are the complete opposite. By adding the ability to move in between attacks, you can evade most of the monsters attacks while dishing out a consistent amount of damage. There is no risk-reward here; just pressing buttons allows you to win. This also applies to Greatsword. A weapon known to be difficult to play but very rewarding if you manage to hit the monster. Greatsword gained an "offset", which essentially functions as a parry. An attack that, while dealing damage, is extremely safe sounds abusable, and it is. Greatswords ability to be invincible during 2/3 of an attack and afterwards being able to instantly guard (and repeat this sequence) and gaining a guaranteed true charge for being attacked by a monster is ridiculous. You can literally shut your brain off and beat the game this way. This offset outclasses any other playstyle and allows you to gain maximum reward for minimal risk.

if there's one thing wilds doesn't have enough of, it's slow, nonthreatening punching bag monsters that stand motionless while you rape them. maybe they can make its whole body a focus strike zone when its charging too?

Like Anthem & Marvel's Avengers,
Wilds has fatally misread its playerbase. Anthem thought people wanted a Destiny clone from BioWare, Avengers thought the MCU could support a live service with almost no substance.

With Wilds, Capcom seems to have fundamentally misread what Monster Hunter fans value most: combat complexity and friction, build diversity, gear-based progression, rewarding mastery.

Instead, Wilds emphasizes overwritten, underwhelming story and cutscenes, and a smoothed-over, frictionless experience defined by extreme powercreep and homogenized weapons.

monster hunter fans have consistently signalled to the devs that they violently hate any content that is designed to be difficult or encourage specific setbuilding to counter a specific enemy and only respond positively to heavily scripted, cinematic set pieces and glorified cutscenes. Couple that with Tsujimoto thinking he'd make even more money on MTX by making sure the retards who couldn't beat great jagras or follow the glowing trail to monster tracks could easily beet the game and that's how you end up with Wilds.

the braindead combat intersects with the monsters being slower and weaker than ever before and the game forcing you to watch indians cry for 30 minutes between every 4 minute hunt where your cat tells you to make sure you remember to heal every 3 seconds after you get hit to make a uniquely shit experience

>no meaningful performance fixes
>Finished Uth Duna fight in July or August

75% of all reviews for Monster Hunter Wilds in the past month have been negative.

Coincidentally, 75% is also how many people killed endgame tempered 8* Mizutsune on their first try as the pinnacle of difficult content in the last title update.

Wilds is too hard for most mildsies, so they had to make a mod that automatically offset counters for you so there's less pesky interference between ERP screenshot time. The game is saved sisters!
