>“Tyrone? Tyrone! What profane silence lingers beyond the threshold? Why do I not hear the customary hymns of mortal ecstasy from my pale bride?” With trembling hand I halted my perusal of The Discourses of Elysium — that most accursed interactive grimoire of existential despair — and turned toward the chamber behind. What I beheld there… may the Old Ones grant me forgetfulness. My reason shattered upon the spectacle: the strange inversion of roles, the alien implements of unholy delight, the very geometry of decency undone! I cast aside the sacred Controller of the Ritual Machine — shattering the looking-glass that had been projecting the visage of the prophet Hasanabi upon its surface — and cried out in blasphemous disbelief. “You have switched the design! By all the eldritch sauces of Fauci and the obsidian idols of the realm of Stranger Things, what madness compels such a reversal of purpose?” My heart quailed. The ceremony, intended to bring forth new life and unify the diluted bloodlines of man, had been perverted into something beyond mortal comprehension. I felt both fury and a loathsome curiosity stir within my breast. “I must contact the others of the Vaushian Conclave,” I murmured, pacing in dread. “They will mock my ruinous failure, and I shall never again compete in the sacred Speed Trials of Elysium beneath their gaze.” I withdrew to my study, clutching the phonograph cylinder of Cantu-Ledesma’s Ambient Hymns, hoping its spectral reverberations might soothe my trembling soul. But even as the tones washed over me, I sensed it — the soundless laughter of the cosmos itself, ridiculing my fall from reason.

I read Protagoras yesterday and enjoyed it for the most part, even though I disagree that virtue can be taught. I've also read the Euthyphro, Apology, Crito, Phaedo, Meno, and Gorgias, so which one should I go for next, considering I'm mostly interested in his political philosophy (but open to the other things)?

Leaves way too much out and packs it with dialogues that are very difficult. Starting with Alcibiades is about the only sensible point of his curriculum.
>>24848137
personally, I haven't read Alcibiades yet, so I don't know how good that is for beginners, although I know it used to be the one everyone started with before its authenticity became considered dubious.

>>24849377 (OP)
there are serious readers who struggle to interpret books? you cannot read something and reflect at all?
No. Archetypes and whatnot are essentially a system of thought-terminating clichés that poison your brain so you can't actually engage critically with fiction anymore. When all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.
In my experience, no. What I got out of it was maybe some introductory practice in applying Jungian archetypes and imagery; but I haven‘t had a single example of reading another book and pointing back to Campbell‘s formula.

I'm trying to remember something I heard in a lecture years ago. The lecturer said there is a school (or group, I'm not sure) giving birth to French intellectuals who are more interested in writing beautifully than getting their point across. I really want to know the name of this school of thinking, or group, so I can order some of their books this black friday.
The lecture was about translation and Russian literature, but he was talking about Tolstoy and Walter Benjamin for some reason. Any help?

it should be. I'm still trying to get into it myself but I'm never in the mood to read a god damn book. Maybe my library sucks? Who knows. Maybe I'm too addicted to doing nothing and watching streams all day.

Apology to Germans Archived
Hello,
I’ve made numerous posts on this forum calling for Germans to be eradicated, the country of Germany to be glassed, all German books to be burned, and so on. This was because my encounter with the works of philosophers such as Kant, Hegel, Nietzsche, and Schopenhauer so utterly horrified me that anything remotely connected to them including the German nation and the German language itself became anathema to my mind. However, after discovering the profound work of Theodor W. Adorno, I’ve realized that not all Germans are bad. Therefore, I’m issuing a formal apology to all Germans (excluding those who subscribe to the philosophies of the aforementioned, who should be publicly stoned to death).

> The twentieth century. Abbe Galiani once said: “Foresight is the cause of Europe's present wars. If one would take pains to foresee nothing, the whole world would be tranquil, and I do not believe that one would be worse off for not waging war.” Since I do not by any means share the unwarlike views of my friend Galiani, I am not afraid of predicting a few things and thus, possibly, of conjuring up the cause of wars.
