Ralsei is definitely not a normal darkner, or a darkner at all, but I don't buy that he's the vessel.
1- He looks nothing like the vessel I made
2- He specifically looks like Asriel, and his name is an anagram, so he HAS to have some connection to Asriel
3- It'd be too much of an asspull, the vessel has to come up in a more substantive way in the story, whenever it does.

I have a few theories:
1- He's actually a lightner that's stuck in the dark world and can't leave for some reason. Possibly Asriel himself.
2- He's a darkner version of Asriel, that Asriel left on purpose to guide Kris someday when he grew up. Or maybe it's leftovers of Asriel's innocence or something when he grew up to be an adult?
3- He's a darkner that's created from something other than physical objects, possibly Kris' memory of Asriel.
4- Kris keeps a picture or a keepsake of Asriel on him at all times, and Ralsei is a darkner born from that item, and he's connected to Kris, which is why he's special.
Considering that Kris knows how to create dark worlds, and also seems to have meta knowledge to some degree, possibly even knowing as much as the Knight does, it would make enough sense that Ralsei would know as much as he does too.

Something I keep wondering about is how the game will "motivate" the played into doing the weird route. Let me explain myself, of course curiosity and seeing everything has to offer but, there's also a catalyst for that curiosity, in Undertale, for example, it's the levelling system, you kill enemies, you get XP, you level, so then some players get curious about what happens if you level up as much as possible, and that is your motivator to perform the genocide route.

But with the weird route, where exactly is this catalyst? Are they supposed to be the hints we finds in later chapters, like in chapter 3? It's possible, that itself might provide enough information for the player to actually understand that there's something more to the game beyond what they're already seeing. But I'm also thinking, maybe there's something more, and it could perhaps be related ot the ending. Undertale had an almost perfect happy ending, really the only tragic element in Asriel/Flowey, but beyond that you could say all the characters get a pretty much perfect ending. Deltarune on the other hand, well, we can't say for sure what type of ending it will have, obviously following the prophecy has a less than ideal outcume, as we can see from the reaction of Susie, but we don't know for sure if the prophecy is gonna be subverted or not in the end, so we still don't know exactly what ending will await us in Deltarune, maybe it's gonna be a 99% happy one, or maybe it will be one considerably more tragic, who knows.

Here's what I think, for the sake of the argument, let's assume Deltarune released as a full product, all the chapters at once. So, the player plays through the game, the player finds these hints towards the weird route, already starts getting curious, then the player reaches the end, and the ending just has *something* that doesn't feel right, something that the player wishes they could change, and so, combined with all the hints, this is the catalyst to the weird route.
