Because it generates discussion. Thanks to the centralization of social media and the death of forums and communities meant for specific topics, there's a finite amount of oxygen in the room that is shared for literally every thing you can talk about, and the best way to "remain" in that room is by not dropping your entire load all at once. You keep coming back. You keep making yourself relevant. You keep showing up and generating reasons for people to *keep* talking about you non-stop. This generates discussion which generates interest which generates money. It's the wet dream of making infinite money while working less because you only need to get out snippets of shit instead of an entire work.

Have you looked at how many fucking Deltarune threads we're having? Yeah that's because Deltarune is episodic. Shonen Manga is making teens lose their fucking shit every week. Billions of gacha gooners playing the most milquetoast dogshit games ever.
