Asriel is away at college. If he's in town, why is he living in The Shelter and lurking around a place where everyone knows and loves him instead of just actually coming home? Why would he need to be operating in secret?
Why is the goody-two-shoes choir boy suddenly at the center of a conspiracy where he has to personally assault and kidnap a cop (after potentially being about to kidnap his own mother) possibly with the intent of having them ritually sacrificed?
Why is Asriel pretending to be Dess? Why would Toby Fox give The Knight two extremely prominent identifying characteristics that point at Dess and only Dess just to rug pull you with "lol the villain was secretly Asriel again"?

>I don't even mean the idea of december being the knight but that people treat it as fact
Because it's obviously true. The only reasonable alternative to consider is Carol, and she can be ruled out pretty easily.
We spent the last four years speculating about who The Knight could be, now we have an answer, we would like to build on that foundation instead of wasting time entertaining fringe hypotheticals.
>and then spin a ton of weird theories that don't connect with the game's themes at all
Can you explain what you think the themes of the game and why Dess Knight would conflict with them?
It seems pretty clear to me after Chapter 3 and 4 that the major thematic conflict of Deltarune is "wanting things to stay the same/go back to how they used to be/'going nowhere'" against the inevitability changing present and unstoppable future. All of the central figures in the story, heroes and villains, are motivated by this in their own way, and The Knight who is creating these fantasy worlds of a retreat into make-believe being December, a "lost girl" with thick as blood connections to the cast who has somehow returned as some shadowy ghost of the past, seems more than appropriate to me.

THEORY: the roaring knight is the dark world manifestation of Kris's guilt after stabbing Dess's eye out. Kris is implied to have a violent past and is trying to repress memories about something happening behind a tree (the egg tree probably). This is also why the knight only has 1 eye/visor in every sprite.

FINALLY SOMEONE GETS IT
>Has not appeared yet but his name when entered in the goner maker gets the same reaction that Asriel, Berdly, Asgore and other important characters get.
>In undertale, he wanted to join the royal guard because he wanted to become powerful, popular, and prestigious. Working under the mayor will give you all that and more.
>In Undertale, Undyne specifically called out Papyrus for his incredible strength. This implies they are around the same strength level or Papyrus may be stronger than her, which would explain why he carried her across hometown so easily.
>The knight never kills the party in their first encounter the same way Papyrus never kills Frisk. Both posses incredible control over their attacks
>The doors that the knight hides in are for a large person. Papyrus is big but just small enough to fit in those doors.
>The knight's head is a red hearing. It is a helmet. Something Carol could have given Papyrus as an insignia of working for the Holidays [YouTube] Deltarune Chapter 4 - Thinking of the Knight (embed)
>Papyrus's white snow effect that appears when approaching his fighting grounds is the same as the black effect when leaving the chapter 3 dark world.
>Papyrus being a powerful person manipulated into doing the dirty work of the Mayor could serve as an obvious thematic parallel to the weird route. Sans was concerned about Flowey's influence on him in Undertale.
>Dess is trapped in the code/dark world. She is most likely being searched for.
>Carol has a festival and other mayor duties to deal with. She can't do those things and be the knight at the same time.
>Besides, if she was caught it would ruin her career as the mayor. Papyrus is some new guy desperate for attention and fame. Perfect for the job.
>And most damning of all, It is physically impossible for the above does to do pic related or morph into a floating ball without seriously messing up their bodily anatomy.

>The knife staircase move resembles a move sans has.
>Pic related could not be possible for someone like dess or Carol to do. They would have to delete their torso. Papyrus could have shifted a few bones around and done this just fine
>The knight never breaks the soul just like how Papyrus doesn't destroy your soul in undertale
>The knight's body armor looks like Papyrus's battle body.
>The helmet could just be an insignia of his alliance to the holiday family
>Carol has been working on the festival all week and thus couldn't have been the knight.
>Dess is probably dead or stuck in a dark world. Either way, she's in no condition to be the knight.

THE KNIGHT IS NOT DESS ITS PAPYRUS
>stated to be incredibly strong in undertale
>gullible and seeks admiration from authority figures like Asgore and the royal guard in Undertale. This could translate to him being manipulated by the mayor to do the dirty work of being the knight
THE KNIGHT IS A PAPYRUS THAT GOT MANIPULATED TO HIS IS GREAT POTENTIAL FOR EVIL. HE'S THE GUY THAT DOES THE DIRTY WORK AND WILL SERVE AS THE SCAPE GOAT IF THE PLAN GOES TO SHIT

>Dess knight theory does not have goals or ambitions
"Not being a fucked up shadow beast anymore" seems like an easy start

>KrisKnight fags still in denial and assblasted two weeks after fighting (and losing) to the actual Knight
Get well soon

Toby added those in because playtesters bitched about not being able to save. They're not supposed to be there.

I was actually thinking maybe Dess' SOUL was merged into Kris' or something like that. Maybe that was needed for Kris to be strong enough to hold us?
The thing inside The Knight doesn't look like a soul, it looks like some kind of ball or eye.

The stuff the Black Knife is made out of being a real physical substance makes me think that The Knight and their "armor" also carries over to the real world, at least to some extent
They probably can't do stuff like fly and shapeshift but they've still been warped into some empowered shadow creature. And they're probably very limited during the daytime, which is why they have to go for these setups in the Dark World.

They don't look like Carol's at all and have you considered they might be a little warped after she became a nine foot tall shadow monster?

No, you are retarded. The black thing we fight is transformed Dess, it's not Carol in a costume.
