Felt a tweak on the top part of my left adductor and biceps femoris so I chose to stop training.

A kelso shrug is about retracting your scapula and pinching them together, a face pull is mainly about arm abduction in the upper plane (so basically pulling with your arms higher than your shoulders).
In face pulls you will also use your traps and rhomboids to some extent but your posterior deltoids is going to be probably the muscle that will reach failure first.
Give a try to kelso shrugs, maybe that way you will feel your smaller upper back muscle reaching failure and understand it a bit better.

Incline bench press 3x8 with 95 kg.
Dumbbell OHP 3x8 with 30 kg.
Tricep extensions 3x12 with 45 kg.
